Best Hebrew study tool?

Not really 100% sure where to post this question, but since it has to do with Sacred Scripture, here it goes:

I’d like to learn Hebrew and am curious what the best way to go about this is.

I wanted to get **Rosetta Stone **but since it costs so much ($500 ), I wonder if it really works…

Are there any cheaper but fruitful means?

Also, is Biblical Hebrew all that different from modern Hebrew?
I know Koine Greek is a little different from modern Greek and that Classical Latin is different from Vulgar Latin

Yes, Biblical Hebrew is different from modern Hebrew, however someone who knows modern Hebrew could read biblical Hebrew. There are differences in idiom and grammar. I have a number of books which teach beginning biblical Hebrew. I used Page Kelly and Seow and have Basics of Biblical Hebrew but have not used it. You may find flash cards helpful. None of those tools are as expensive as software. I am not familiar with Rosetta Stone.

If you want to get started right away, learn the alphabet thoroughly You can do nothing without the alphabet. I am not fond of transliteration schemes for Hebrew. I suggest learning the actual Hebrew script.
