Best Latin Missal for new Catholic?

Hello,

I am coming into the Catholic Church and I have been attending a Traditional Latin Mass for about the last six weeks or so. I went to a NO Mass before then but was drawn to the TLM. My question is about finding a good English/Latin Missal for Mass. Which one would you recommend for somebody new in the Church. There are so many to choose from. I thought I found a good one and will add it to my collection of religious literature. It is a Missal from 1953 from Catholic Press. I bought it through E-Bay and it turns out it is all in English. It’s a wonderful Missal though. I would just like to find a good one that will help me follow along during Mass and learn to appreciate what’s happening even more when Latin is spoken. Welcome to the faith! I’m glad to hear you’re attending a Latin Mass. I recommend the Angelus Press 1962 missal.This is the one that I have, and I love it. Not cheap, but it’s very thorough, and has full translations and some nice illustrations on feast day pages, too. Even though Angelus Press is associated with the SSPX (which isn’t in line with Rome), the missal itself is fine, it’s a reprint of the classic 1962 edition, and I’ve heard that priests in the FSSP (which is in line with Rome and is totally awesome, if you haven’t heard of it look it up) sometimes use it as well.

I second @CG_Catholic’s recommendation. I use the Angelus Press one, and I prefer its layout for the Order of the Mass more than the Baronius (FSSP) one. The commentary in the margins is also very nice.

I was also looking into the Angelus Press version as well. I did have reservations about them since they are associated with the SSPX but it did seem like the best one. I think that Dr. Taylor Marshall actually recommended that one as well on his YouTube channel. I actually attend a parish that is part of the FSSP. We rent a chapel out of a bigger parish and just hold our TLM there.

Thank you for your recommendation as well. I think that might be the best route to take. They are expensive like Adam mentioned previously but I plan on getting a lot of mileage out of it so it’s a good investment. I just want to make sure this is the last Missal I will buy for a long time. I bought a St. Joseph Sunday Missal back when I was attending the NO Mass and that really doesnt have much use any longer.
 
I will say that I think in terms of binding, the Baronius one is better. The Angelus Press one is not real leather, unlike that version.
 
I would recommend the Angelus Press Missal as everyone above has.

However, I hear that the “Fr. Lasance Missal” is pretty good in terms of content (not necessarily physical quality), and it is actually Dr. Taylor Marshall’s favourite Missal.
 
Whether it is genuine leather or imitation leather really isn’t a big deal to me. It’s what is inside that matters to me. Just hope it doesn’t lead to it falling apart that much easier. I plan on keeping it for years. I did just order an Angelus Press 1962 Missal a little bit ago. Strange how closely we’re monitored on the internet though. I just buy one and then I go to YouTube and there’s a video in my recommended list about another Traditional Catholic who is reviewing the very same Missal.

I prefer the Father Lasance missal, and I keep a couple of the small, simple Father Stedman missals on hand as well.
 
Any handmissal that you can and do easily use at the 1962 Mass is good.
 
I use the Baronius Press 1962 Missal. It’s full of excellent information and devotions. If using Angelus materials gives you pause, the Baronius Missal has an Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat. I love mine and use it even outside the Latin Mass for my daily readings.
 
I bought the Angelus Press Missal when it came out. We asked our FSSP priest if that was okay, and he said it wasn’t a problem.

But I agree, now that the Baronius Press version is out, you might give that one a try-- they’re both about the same price point.
 
There’s nothing wrong with the SSPX. So if you’d like to use the Angelus latin mass missal, then feel free to.
