Best Mass book for non-Catholic?

My husband is not Catholic, but he told me yesterday he is prayerfully considering coming into the Church in 2015.

He has asked that I find him a Mass book that contains all of the Catholic prayers, the readings for years A-C, and other pertinent information. He would like me to get it for him for Christmas. It does not need to fancy.

My husband is Protestant (he has not attended service since before we were married…and he attends Catholic Mass faithfully each week). So he is coming to this with a Christian background.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I haven’t owned one aside from the one I received for my First Communion.

It has the Order of the Mass plus a lot of other prayers/information that he may enjoy.

It does not have the readings though…

That’s so great that he’s interested in it! You must be a good influence on him. I know my wife was for me. 🙂

For all the readings years A - C, I’ll assume you are only asking about Sunday Mass!? One book which I found to be great, especially since I’m beginning to lector (read) at Mass is the workbook for lectors. You won’t get all 3 years but each book is a particular year. Here’s the current one…

You will get insight into the context of the scriptures and it helps to see the theme between the OT, Psalm, NT and Gospel readings. Obviously you don’t have to be a lector to use it for your own personal growth.

One thing I also found that was helpful is to Google “scripture in Catholic Mass”. There are a number of Priests out there who have provided the insight into the prayers and everything done/ said at Mass and where it comes from in the Scriptures either directly or inspired. Here’s an example…

As Aquila Lucis mentioned, the Daily Missal is a great resource and there are others as well such as Magnificat, etc. for daily/ weekday Mass as well as Sunday.

Most importantly, if he does not have one, then a Catholic Bible is at the top of the list!

RCIA would be a great thing for your husband to look into as well. Although most have already begun so he would likely be looking at the next “session”.
