Best missal or source for all the Collect prayers?

I like to say the Collect prayer for saints on their feast day. You get a partial indulgence for doing so - it’s under “Veneration of the Saints” and they refer to the “Oration of the Mass”, which from my research, refers to the Collect, which mentions the specific Saint. Plus it is just a nice way to be reminded of the saint.

My problem is that while the USCCB website is great for finding the day’s Mass readings in USA, it doesn’t have the Collects. The only website that seems to have them is CatholicCulture.org, and even they sometimes do not have all the collects for all the Saints of the Day. As an example, this entire week in USA we have had the same Collect (the one that starts, “Stir up…” ) and while it is very nice, there are also three Saint memorials today and none of those Collects happen to be on CatholicCulture, which often has the collects for optional memorials. Perhaps it is because none of the saints are specifically venerated in USA. I was able to find the Collect for St. Edmund Campion, who is a pretty important saint IMHO, on a British Jesuit website but cannot find them for the other saint and blessed of the day.

Is there a really good source for ALL the Collect prayers, or should I just go start compiling my own in a notebook?

Just get a missal, then you have the prayers for every feast.

Do all the editions of Missals have all the feasts for all the countries, or is there one that is particularly good in this regard? CatholicCulture seems to have all the saints venerated in USA covered, even if the memorials are optional, so if a Missal I buy is confined to USA, that is not going to add very much to what I now have.

I seem to recall some past discussions of the different Missals and some discussion of which ones contained European feasts etc.

Also, does the Universalis app or other app contain these for all countries, or most countries?

Yeah, I think that’s overkill. If there isn’t a website for these, or a good hand missal, I can start my own notebook or app or whatever - a day planner would work as these are short prayers.

I’ve got the 2012 St Paul Daily Missal. (ISBN 978-0819872203)

Looking through it, it gives the Collect for the Sundays, which doesn’t seem to change with the yearly readings cycle.

It does not give a different Collect for the Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/etc of nth Week of Ordinary Time readings.

However, in the back, it does give the Collects for the Proper(s?) of Saints. So that’s about 19 in January, apart from the Sunday Collects; 14 in February; 10 in March; 15 for April, and so on. Some of them are duplicates, such as when you have the option of celebrating either St. Blaise or St. Ansgar on Feb. 3rd, or Pope St. Fabian or St. Sebastian on Jan. 20th. In that regard, it seems like the catholicculture website is more thorough.

So-- it really does sound like you have a cool project ahead of you. 🙂

Universalis allows you to change calendars for different countries and the dioceses within them. With a little navigation you should be able to find the Collects for the saints’ days.
The LOTH (in the UK anyway) contains the Collects for memorias in the General and National Calendar; there’s also Collects for ‘the Common of…’.

Sounds like it’s time for me to buy that app. I’ve been using the website version but it does not seem to have all the same features. Thanks.

The app is great and worth the money. I’ve used it abroad and was able to follow the Mass in the local language and English.
Also an option to have Latin and English should you need/want it.

Sometimes wandering into a good Catholic Bookstore works wonders. There is one near work that I sometimes drop by at lunch. Never know what I’ll walk out of there with. Sometimes nothing, sometimes exactly what I was looking for, sometimes something unrelated.

Blessings,
Stephie
