Best missal to use for the EF Mass

The original publisher certainly assumed that Low Masses were the norm for his audience, but except for lacking the Aperges Me prayer at the beginning, there is no difference, you know.

Question for Rich or anyone else with My Sunday Missal: I went to solemn high mass on Sunday and used this missal for the first time at a high mass. There were some chants during the processional and recessional that I didn’t have in my missal. What are these chants called (are they antiphons?) and why aren’t they in a missal that’s supposed to be for Sunday mass? Thanks!

Unfortunately this missal (and St. Joseph’s Daily as well) only have the propers in some English translation. They aren’t of much value in trying to follow the Missa in Cantu (High Mass) or Missa Solemnis (Solemn High Mass).

I don’t have it but I believe the Baronius has the Latin propers.

Unfortunately this missal (and St. Joseph’s Daily as well) only have the propers in some English translation. They aren’t of much value in trying to follow the Missa in Cantu (High Mass) or Missa Solemnis (Solemn High Mass).

OK, I’m still behind the curve with all of this. So this missal really is for just low masses? Oh well, I’m not going to buy another missal at this time since high mass is only twice a month or so and I don’t go to low mass on the other Sundays. I do like the handiness of this missal.

If you’re okay with what you have, I don’t see the need of upgrading your missal. The Missa Lecta (Read or Low Mass) and Missa in Cantu (Sung or High Mass) use the same Latin texts; it’s just that you can follow the singing or chant better if you have the Latin, that’s all.

Thanks. I don’t need to follow in Latin at all. I’m fine reading the propers (?) in English. I’ll just deal with not having the antiphons and asperges rite in this missal. Maybe in the future I’ll re-visit and get the New Marian (which is a pretty good price) or the St. Joseph Missal.

I don’t need to follow in Latin at all. I’m fine reading the propers (?) in English. I’ll just deal with not having the antiphons and asperges rite in this missal. Maybe in the future I’ll re-visit and get the New Marian (which is a pretty good price) or the St. Joseph Missal.

I’m almost sure the New Marian doesn’t have the Latin propers either.

FWIW, my job isn’t selling handmissals. If you don’t want the Latin, you can pick up a prayerbook with full-page pictures with some short prayers that match the pictures. I’ve seen a few of those in my lifetime.

No, I want to pray the Mass and follow along so I like having the ordinary of the mass in English/Latin, and the propers in English. Father talks so fast that it’s hard enough keeping up with him.
