Creighton, hands down. It is based off of mucus observations and doesn’t require four hours of continuous sleep to take a temperature which can be tough with a baby!

FYI fertility can return after the first 56 days of exclusively breastfeeding, so it is possible to conceive while breastfeeding.
Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut! Maybe I should take a class. I did an intro session but I still don’t get how Creighton differs from the mucus part of STM. Do you think it would be too hard to learn Creighton while breastfeeding?

Is a breastfeeding based method an option? I’ve never been pregnant but I know there is a set of rules for using breastfeeding as your method for the first 6 months but it requires a lot of discipline around timing of feeds I believe.

Taking charge of your fertility by Tony Weschler lays out the rules.
I see there was a lot of discussion about this method. 🙂 I’m not a candidate anyway because I had some bleeding at 6 weeks. After my first baby I bled at 10 weeks, so I don’t think LAM is going to work for me. I wish I were one of those women whose cycles didn’t come back for a year, but I have to deal with irregular bleeding, continuous mucus and erratic temperatures, so I’ve got to find another method. We’re considering Marquette.

I would say that Marquette probably makes a lot of sense for you, I think a lot of people with similar situations find it useful. There’s a lot of online support and you can even find instructors online. We’ve looked into Marquette a little bit and there’s a very active Facebook group that maintains a list of instructors who are willing to teach online, as well as lots of tips and tricks for buying test sticks as inexpensively as possible. 🙂

Pensmama87, that’s really good to know about the Facebook group! I’ll look into it. Thanks!

I have used Marquette and Billings. I liked the “techie” aspect of Marquette but could no longer afford the sticks, switched to Billings. Had no trouble reading mucus.

My cycles returned at 8.5 and 15 months for my two kids.

The Creighton classification of mucus differs from STM in that it is more descriptive in color, stretch and sensation. It’s pretty easy to learn while breastfeeding- most folks catch on pretty quickly.
