These are stores people should avoid
Monastery Icons
monasteryicons.com/

The icons by “Brother” Robert Lentz. He supports gay marriage and pagan worship.

I agree that these sources should be avoided. Robert Lentz does beautiful work though. In his early years, he wrote the iconostasis for our parish (his first). It is truly impressive. His current work still shows his talent, but also a troubled soul.

I have had good luck with easterngiftshop.com/orthodox-icons–Icons.html

They are a homeschooling family and offer great customer service, quality work, quick shipping and reasonable prices.

I must say that I was disturbed upon seeing the Apache Christ.

There is also Holy Trinity Icon Mounting Studio from Holy Trinity Monastery (ROCOR) in Jordanville, New York: iconstudio.jordanville.org/
There is quite a selection of icons and many options as to whether you want a print or a mounted icon.

Another option are the very nice ornamented prints done by the Hermitage of the Holy Cross (ROCOR): holycross-hermitage.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=MWIC&keywords=all&template=PDGCommTemplates/TopBotNav/Storebuilder_Type4.html
I have purchased several for wedding presents for friends and have been impressed by the quality.

Although tangential, we use their Athonite-style incense almost exclusively as well. holycross-hermitage.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=NCNS&keywords=all&template=PDGCommTemplates/TopBotNav/Storebuilder_Type4.html

It disturbs me that it was done in the iconographic style but if it would have been a painting or something similar it wouldn’t matter to me. The Ethiopian Orthodox depict Christ as African.
in their icons.

I have bought a few Icons from Monastery when I could not find them elsewhere. A Christus Rex crucifix, and a pair of St Francis and St Anthony. I am a former Franciscan and icons of western saints are impossible to find at the usual Eastern sources.

I really do not see a problem as long as they are blessed.

I understand the problem with finding western saints. I’ve been looking for a few western saints for a while now, with no luck. Personally, I don’t want to financially support Monastery icons, not to mention that I don’t care for their style.

For icons of Western Saints I would recommend The Printery House. They have a few icons for sale and all the proceeds go to Conception Abbey which is run by Benedictine monks.

They have a Divine Mercy icon I like very much.

How come western-style “icons” are very feminine and don’t seem to care about iconographic tradition? 😦

Perhaps they should just stick to statuary.
