Iâll throw out Charleston, SC as an option!
I lived there for about 7 years and absolutely loved it. Itâs on the coast, with several beaches and islands all within a very short drive. The city is beautiful, with a great historic district downtown. Itâs got a rather sizable medical community (off the top of my head, I can think of six different hospitals there, including the Medical University of South Carolina, all for an area with a population of ~100k), so your husband would have plenty of options. Conde Nast has ranked it the #1 city in the US to visit for the past couple of years, and I can attest to its draws.
Youâve got a relatively small (compared to big cities like Charlotte) Catholic community, but there are some excellent parishes. The cost of living is quite affordable, especially compared so SoCal or the northeast/northwest. Youâre within a several hour drive of the NC mountains, too, if you want different scenery. The weather is pretty warmâyou really only have three seasonsâspring, summer, and fall. Humidity can get pretty high in the summer, but if youâre on the coast, you get good breezes.
The Charleston airport is an international airport, but itâs pretty small. Every time I traveled internationally from there (I went to Spain and England), I ended up flying from Charleston to New York, then catching the international flight from there. On a side note, Charleston is now one of the cruise ports, so if you want to take a cruise to the Bahamas or something, you donât have to travel far at all!
