I don’t know if it’s a gut buster, but “Cook” was one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. The director of Iron Man made it, and it’s probably got one of the most poignant scenes I’ve seen about how not to relate to an estranged son.
The Dad picks up his son (he’s divorced, sadly) and then takes him out to an amusement park. It then goes through a 3 second sequence of quick clips of them going to movies, riding rollercoasters, playing video games. All over in a few seconds, showing that all the activity was virtually meaningless because the Dad wasn’t really invested in spending time with the kid, he was clocking it in, and the boy knew it. It has so much great stuff in it, and it does technically count as a comedy in that it follows the classical arc of one.
