Much as I think I’d like that, I think that at 36 I might be just a tad past the normal age to do so.

Not at all. To serve Holy Mass is a great privilege. Unless of course you’re worried about being mocked by people who have little reverence for the Mass.

At my EF community, the pious men who serve on weekdays when the kids are in school are in their 60s and 70s. They “allow” children to serve on weekends, but they’d rather be doing it themselves. I myself hope to learn to serve when my children are older, but for now my boys get their turn, maybe it will foster a vocation or four.

The content of the Angelus edition is essentially the same as the Baronius edition. The Angelus edition doesn’t list the Luminous Mysteries since it is published by the SSPX.

My 1962 Baronius Press Missal doesn’t list them either.

Okay, I gotta ask and admit something. I collect Missals and Breviaries. I do pray the LOTH by the way too. But anyway, if I buy one of the missals spoke of in this thread, such as the Baronius Press version, the 1962 version, etc. could I use it at my Masses? - Non Tridentine masses of today? I am a little confused with the year 1962, 1945, etc. I usually use the Missal to prepare for Mass or read the Daily Readings alone or with my sons. Can someone explain though, if I did take these versions to Mass, would I be able to follow the current translations of the readings and the order of Mass? I do take either the Missal or the LOTH to Mass (for praying before Mass) or let my sons follow the Missal so this would be appreciated. I just want to know if these are going to be useful to me before I plunk down over 68 bucks.

At a non-Tridentine Mass? No, you cannot use a 1962 (or earlier) missal to follow along with the modern form of the Mass. Although some things will be the same (Gloria, Credo; the collects from time to time), many things are substantially different – in particular, the readings in the current form of the Mass are completely altered.

Thanks johnnyc, I subscribed to Laudamus Te and look forward to reading it. Thank you to everyone else as well. There’s so many to choose from! Is it against the Church to buy the Angelus version because of SSPX (not that I disagree with them but I don’t want to do anything against the Holy See). Any comments on the St. Joseph version? I read that it has an easier layout to follow. Also, is it best to buy a 1962 version or pre-1962 and what would be the differences? Thanks again!

I have the St. Joseph Daily Missal published in 1959 and a St. Andrews Daily missal published in 1953. They both have the side by side. I prefer the St. Joseph Missal. It has little pictures at points of the Mass so you know what the priest is doing and where you should be while reading the English while the priest is reading the Latin. On the rare occasion that I can get to a Latin Mass I bring this missal. I grew up with the Latin Mass and had no problem reading the English along with the priest’s Latin. The missal is worn to the point where there is a discoloration as to where my thumb was holding the missal open.
