Best RSV-CE

Maybe I’m mistaken about catholic teaching! It wouldn’t be the first time. I thought the church taught that the gospels were written by the apostles. But my New Annotated Oxford Study Bible says no, they were not written by them.

To answer your question, Scepter appears to currently publish two versions of the RSV-CE (both in leather, or something like leather.)

One is published by Thomas Nelson for Scepter, and is exactly the same (size, text, font and all) as the original (blue) Ignatius first edition (which is published by Thomas Nelson for Ignatius Press). I own this particular Scepter bible, and prefer it to the Ignatius edition (which I also have in the paperback version at work) mainly because the text is not nearly as cramped near the binding. In other words, you don’t have to force the bible open to see the text near the inside margins.

Then, Laura, you own the RSV-CE, with the 1959 NT and the 1965 Catholic changes.

As much as I prefer in many places the 1971 NT for the basis of an RSV-CE, as published in the “compact” editions, I feel Oxford pulled a fast one here, since, to be technically correct, this was not the RSV-CE that received the Imprimatur back in 1965/66.

But we already covered this ad nauseam in that other thread on the RSV-CE.

Yeah, any of the ones that say “compact edition” at the following link. Find the one you want, and then copy and paste the ISBN into google to find the best price. Also, Ignatius and Scepter have produced branded versions that are the exact same on the inside, and just have different covers, so you might find one of those elsewhere appealing to you.

I’m still using the Thomas Nelson & Sons edition (copyrights 1965 and 1966) which I purchased in about 1968.
