The “Exhortation before Marriage,” which used to be read to all couples at a Catholic wedding just before the exchange of vows, is both pithy and meaty. It would be worth reflecting on in any instruction about marriage.

The part beginning with: “This union, then, is most serious, because it will bind you together for life in a relationship so close, and so intimate, that it will profoundly influence your whole future,” and continuing to the end, is particularly worth pondering.

The exhortation can be found in several places on the web, including here:

Sorry, did I misunderstand your email? You wrote to me, “All your blog posts/columns are great. But could I ask you for an email copy of one of your favourites on marriage? I think the kids would relate to your style.”

:confused:Nope - it was great. The kids enjoyed it.👍

I was just pleased that you answered my email: I thought it would be a long shot.

I also used the Exhortation which complemented it well.

Oh, sorry, just a misunderstanding! I hope the article will help. Good luck with your class!

No probs.👍

Keep up the great columns Simcha.

One of the good things we do in the marriage section is have the kids interview a couple who are married.

Usually (or possibly unusually today), it’s their own parents.

I’ve had some great accounts of their interviews and the kids learn something profound about their own mom and dad.

Sometimes I find out that a parent is really sick or suffering in some way which gives me an opening to talk with the student in depth.

You know - I actually love my job!
