Best Smithsonian Museum for teenaged girls?

we are leaving on our trip in 2 days. We don’t plan on doing the White House tour, we did that in 2000, it was not worth the time IMO. Seeing it from the outside will be good enough. We’re down to two children at home now and want to cover a few things to give them a feel for the Nation’s capitol.
 
Me and my boyfriend went to DC a couple years ago to visit his family. I really loved the zoo, but I love all zoos.

I also really enjoyed the Holocaust museum but it was horribly crowded when we went. It made it hard to really take in everything and be able to read all the signage. The biggest thing that stuck with me was all the shoes. But anyways, it’s definitely a great museum and as a teenager I would have loved going there since I was very into learning about that time in history.

Mt. Vernon was interesting as well, but I’m not sure if teenage girls will want to tour an old house. But I really enjoyed walking around the grounds.

Please let us know what you saw and how the girls liked it!
 
I like the National Gallery, but I would say, since they are all together and they are all free, have them go through at their own pace. It’s easy enough to go to 3 or more in a day.
 
We are back from our trip. We saw some of the American History museum, some of the Natural History museum. We had a day at the Zoo and saw the pandas among other things. We saw the Spanish armor exhibit at the Art Museum. We also got a tour of the Capitol building and saw the Library of Congress. We really saw a lot.
 
I’d also plug the Natural History Museum. But don’t forget to visit the John Paul II cultural center. Very nice with alot of exibits for children.

The natural history museum had a very cool IMEX film of underwater life that was incredible!!!

That IS a lot for 2 1/2 days! Glad you enjoyed it. We try to do at least a few things every summer–I don’t want my kids to grow up and say they lived right by DC and never went there! LOL

The Spanish armor sounds right up my son’s alley. There is an illuminated manuscript exhibit we wanted to see also this summer. I think we need to start planning our day in DC too!

The Spanish armor was ceremonial armor with incredible detailed etchings on it. Really cool!
