Best Traditional Christmas Albums?

I’m ready to listen to some Christmas music : ) I have several albums, but I’m looking for ones that are distinctly traditional and Catholic. No Rudolf, no “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” (Those are fine but not what I’m seeking.)

What are your favorites?

I don’t mind a few secular carols in the mix, but I want them to still be traditional carols.
 
I’m not sure if they still do, but Hallmark cards used to put out a Christmas album each year. They did one around 1988 called “Songs for the Holidays.” My mother used to play this record (yes, record) frequently around the holidays when I was young, and it always reminds me of the Christmases of my youth. Obviously it was meant for the masses, so there is a mix of secular and religious carols, all very tastefully performed. I can’t recall who the male and female vocalists are, but they are backed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Definitely worth checking out.
 
Straight no Chaser’s version of Hark the Harald/ Gloria is transcendant. That is an under statement. It’s beautiful. You will float. I stopped breathing for a bit when I first heard the chord progression that surprises you.

The Roger Wagner Chorale’s Joy to the World and The Firestone Christmas favorites number 7. ( A few of the songs on the latter are secular (Jolly Old Saint Nicholas) but still classics.

I listened to this from little when my dad played it. Thanks be to God, that was the best catechism I had growing up! Those hymns teach so much and when we pass them by for ‘When Santa Claus gets your letter’ stuff, you miss a wonderful opportunity to put the message of the Son of God taking on flesh and being with us.

Looking forward to that again soon. We got a dump of snow on the weekend and it’s dark by 5 pm. Feels like Christmas could be right around the corner.

The best is a Festival of Nine Carols.
 
Last year I bought an album called…“The best Christmas Carols album in the world…ever”
And to my surprise, it is.
50 CAROLS.
It is a UK production sung by The Saint Michaels Singers and The Coventry Singers.

You must get this.

Any way I’ll bet you will like this one. It’s by the Daughters of Mary sisters. They have a couple of Christmas albums .

Not for me. Too straight. Not a lot of emotion is portrayed that way.

This is more my style. They made 3800 people dead silent while they did this off mic in St. Louis last week.

Well seeing that I have already plugged the Roger Wagner Chorale (very tough competition) I’m putting the Ricki Lee Jones, accompanied by the Chieftains, version as my second choice.
O Holy Night is such a wonderful Christmas Carol-anyone else out there already singing as we look forward to December 25?
