I believe there are 3 most foundational Catholic beliefs that need excellent rational apologetics, and because of their importance there should be an excellent video to present the most convincing arguments for each.
  1. Existence of God. The best video for me: m.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=COJ0ED1mV7s&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Ffeature%3Dplayer_embedded%26v%3DCOJ0ED1mV7s
  2. Jesus is God: topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-case-for-christ/
  3. The one true Church established by Jesus is the Catholic Church. What’s the most rigorously convincing video for this one?

Why should there be a video? The Church has done fine without videos for 2000 years!

And so has the rest of the world…until now. Now video is one of the major means of communications and an excellent evangelizing tool. Not the only tool, but a very useful one.

These are very good videos and I like both Craig and Stobel. But I think it might be more to the point to use professional Catholic apologists. Many of the videos on YouTube are one but not the other.

Yes it has done well for 2000 years, but using video as an additional tool is keeping with the times without changing the Faith. People, especially young use technology. Why not use it? Didn’t The Pope send out tweets? 🙂

I’m not saying videos are not a good idea. I was responding to the OP’s comment that states or at least implies the Church must do this.

While you are looking for a number 3 … here is one that might go with it as an appendix.
It’s not exactly what you are looking for … just the words of Archbishop Fulton Sheen addressed to a theoretical person search for which Church is the right Church.

For #3, I recommend youtube.com/watch?v=Q_KUe-DdhAA,
titled “Proof Catholic Church Was Founded by Jesus Christ FULL.”

Thanks to all who responded.

Since I have been searching for this too, I have found these so far:
I wrote to Lee Strobel to consider studying the Catholic church, bringing to his attention the conversion of Scott Hahn, Peter Kreeft and their reasons. **If we pray hard enough perhaps he will convert to Catholicism and produce a best-seller book like the Case for Christ and then produce a video too of his adventure towards Catholicism: the Case for the Catholic Church! 🙂

Thanks for doing that. That would be so great. Jennifer Fulwiler mentions Strobel in her conversion story. It looks like he even left a comment on her article. I will remember Lee in my prayers tonight!

It’s far from being a comprehensive video, but I really like The Rock of St. Peter by Chris Stefanick. It would make a great trailer to the full apology.

With love in Christ,
Pete

Thanks Pete for the additional information and the prayers for this intention. The more people pray, the more we will see something happening in this direction. Lee Strobel’s Case for Christ has a great power to convince people (I just took a look at the comments at Amazon and he has converted an agnostic Jew!).

I hope and pray one day there will be someone who will present a book and video featuring all the most scholarly Catholic converts and take many of our separated brethren back to Christ’s Church.

Pope Francis has been using the social communications media as a great tool for evangelization, and the past synod on New Evangelization pushed for this because of its great potential.

If it’s not Lee Strobel, then perhaps one of the prominent converts can do so. Or EWTN. But it would be good for it to have the drama and conflict shown by Strobel.

I watched the first video which was good. I am familiar with Dr. Craig as I have gone through his Defender Series on his website. The only thing in the video which I think could have been better or longer with more explanation is how we go from the universe has a cause to this cause is God. One of the things atheists will argue is that it is a stretch to assume that because the universe needs a cause then that cause must be God. They will say things like couldn’t the cause be the spaghetti monster for instance or a block of cheese. Of course that sounds silly to us but that is the point. They consider the idea of God to be just as silly.

In the video it goes into the idea that the cause must be timeless, immaterial, spaceless, uncaused, and powerful. But, it doesn’t really say why this is true. If one watches the Defender series on the existence of God they will see why these things are so. And, Dr. Craig will say the only two things we know of that are immaterial are abstract objects and minds. And, then he will say that abstract objects can not cause anything. The number 2 for instance can not cause anything. But, he will say that an immaterial mind could cause something. And for an analogy he uses our minds as causing an effect in our material bodies. Though he clarifies that the universe is not God’s body.

Still, it doesn’t prove God’s existence. As the video explains it only shows that it is reasonable to believe in God as an explanation.

I actually kind of favor the contingency argument for God’s existence that goes like this.
  1. Every existing thing has an explanation of its existence, either in the necessity
of its own nature or in an external cause.
  2. If the universe has an explanation of its existence, that explanation is God.
  3. The universe is an existing thing.
  4. Therefore the explanation of the existence of the universe is God.
I like to say that if atheism is true that means we are an inexplicable riddle that can never be solved. If some lifeless force of nature is responsible for our existence then it would mean our existence is an eternal mystery. However, if God is responsible for our existence then our existence has an explanation. God himself would still be a mystery to us but at least we wouldn’t be as big of a mystery to ourselves. The buck has to stop somewhere. Something has to be uncaused and non-contingent in order to bring contingent beings like ourselves into existence.
