My husband and I currently have a 16month old and a 2month old. With me being a stay at home mom that is all I can handle, some days I feel as if I’m going to blow with frustration other days I just want to cry because it seems impossible.

Being Catholic I already know that any for of contraception (condoms, birth control, ect.) are out of the question. Any act that involves “not planting the seed” is also not allowed. So my question is, How can we still have sex or be intimate with out getting pregnant again?

My SIL uses a calender app on her phone to track when she ovulates and goes from there…I would do that but I have not had a period for over 2 years (having my kids and breastfeeding both have delayed it)…so I can’t exactly track that.

God doesn’t give us more then we can handle but if I get pregnant again at this point I feel like I will regret the child and be so depressed.

The Lady Comp. Look it up on Amazon. It has been wonderful for us.

You should read up on NFP and ask your husband to take classes with you. It is a very effective, scientifically backed method of spacing children. The Church does not teach that you must conceive with every conjugal act. The act is defined as both unitive and, when the timing is aligned with the fertile phase, procreative. The attitude of spouses is to remain open to life, and cooperating with your body’s natural cycles is perfectly acceptable. NFP also fosters communication between you and your husband, and prevents an imbalance where conjugal love is concerned. Your marriage will be strengthened, trust me!

Oh and NFP methods also account for special circumstances like lack of ovulation due to nursing. An excellent book to start with is The Art of Natural Family Planning. It’s available on Amazon.

Taking care of little kiddos can be very stressful, so make sure you set aside time to recoup your strength and get a much deserved break! May our Blessed Mother provide you strength and comfort by her maternal example. God bless you 🙂

Please check out the Marquette Model of NFP. I use the fertility monitor and mucus. I began using after my 3rd son was born, and it successfully detected my return of fertility while breastfeeding (mine returned at 13months). I was so happy with the monitor since my mucus readings were very tricky.

They have a wonderful question forum and both the nurse and doctor in charge of the new method are very quick to answer any questions you might have. The website states the overview of the rules of the MM. I also temp as well, if you think your sleep pattern will work for it.

Praying for you…hugs. I know you have your hands full, and pray God blesses you for your obedience to him.

From what I learnt and from what we did, do not look and rely on one method only. Rely on every conceivable method that will help you and you have several books as advice. The sum of all the methods is what gives you a more whole picture of your body.

For instance, I was taught many years ago, by a brilliant doctor who was the representative of the Vatican in the WHO that some women feel an instant click of pain when they ovulate. I already was called fool for saying this to a know-it-all lady what did not bother me at all. I asked then when it would come a piece of paper what would show, in contact with urine or saliva, the state of the hormonal cycle. My time passed and this technological development did not come but I know it will come, though maybe the Pharmaceutics are not interested on that for pills will give more money to them.

God Bless You.

Does this intended to be funny?
It was a serious answer, I think. And true. It may not be what a young couple wants to hear, but you do understand that the natural outcome of sexual intercourse is babies, so…🤷

And abstinence can make the heart grow fonder, as they say…😉

The best way is to not have sex…
For 3 years? Sex is part of marriage, I don’t believe it is possible to abstain for that long. We have tried it and only went 2 weeks. I know that their are other ways to be intimate with out having sex but neither of us have the will power to actually stop having sex completely. I thank you for the imput though

The natural outcome of intercourse is not babies. If the ovula lasts 2 days, plus more 4 days for the semen, more of less the woman may get pregnant in 1/3 of the days of the month.

I do not think the couple does not want to hear, otherwise, they would not have asked and they did not show any resistance to any answer.

Now, the last sentence of yours tells a very true truth that is seldom told: abstinence for some time during the month makes the heart grow fonder and the next intercourse much more interesting…

You can use the Creighton method even if you are not menstruating currently. Go to the class and the teacher will explain it to you. The method works post-partum and when you start to go through pre-menopausal period.
