This apparitioncame up in another thread.

It was approved by Archbishop Pio Bello Ricardo
catholicculture.org/docs/doc_view.cfm?recnum=5245

I had never heard of this and would like more information. When I googled it a lot of the links were dead.

Maria Esperanza was the first to see it. What I found was that although the bishop approved Betania, there is no approval of Maria’s visions.

This first occured in 1976. The devil produces false claims in order to obscure true claims. I understand that there was also a miracle with the host.

I read somewhere that Pope John Paul II approved this place. I wish I could find where I first read it. Also, you can find the letter where the Bishop approved the place at mariaesperanza.com

EDIT: Apparently, it was semi-approved according to this site

Bleeding Host.

Because of the fruits, Bishop Pio Ricardo Bello who had just been appointed head of the Diocese of Los Teques in Venezuela and who had known the Betania visionary Maria Esperanza de Bianchini for well over forty years, surprised everyone with an official letter of approval of the Betania Apparitions at the Diocesan level on November 21, 1987. It was the first time an apparition had been approved while the visions were still happening. He based his findings on all the evidence he had poured over. He would be rewarded for his faith and belief on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception four years later when the Sacred Host would bleed in the hands of Maria’s Spiritual Director after consecrating the Host at Holy Mass in front of thousands.

Letter of Approval by Bishop

Thanks for your replies.

Does anyone have more information? I don’t know why this has touched me but it has. I would like to know more.

Ann

I do have more info that I will see if I can post a little later tonight or tomorrow (I’m throwing a party today - not alot of time 🙂 )

From memory I can tell you this…

Maria and her husband own the land this occurred on.
Maria was the first one to claim to see Mary.
The only reason others came to also see Mary was because they had heard of Maria’s visions and came to visit.

Maria has had other experiences that Bishop Bello was conducting a separate investigation on. I do not know if the current bishop has continued this investigation.

When Bishop Bello wrote his pastoral letter - Maria’s name was included in the context of the letter.
This does not mean he was giving official approval to Maria herself - but it is part of his description of the timeline of events.

If Maria’s testimony were suspect - why would the Bishop proceed to approve the apparitions and write a pastoral letter including the name of a liar?

Bishop Bello has given personal interviews concerning the events and Maria. He never accused her of being a liar. He never indicated he disbelieved her testimony.

If we are to look for the investigating bishops for guidance - why are so many people calling Maria a deceiver - when her own bishop never gave us any reason to think that of her?

This is a good question. At this point, I am still at the need more information stage. I don’t mean that I her veracity is in doubt. I mean that I have been impressed with the whole thing.

So now I just want to know more.🙂

This book - A Bridge to Heaven gives an overview of the events and includes an interview with the bishop…

spiritdaily.com/books2.htm

Somewhere around here I have a copy. When I find it I’ll post some of the Bishop’s statements.

spirit daily has done many articles on Maria.
I’m not a big Michael Brown fan but his articles on Maria were always very interesting.

She passed away this past summer after suffering a disorder similar to JPII’s condition.

Is there a definitive list of approved apparitions incluiding Betania available online?

I have found this but I am unsure if it should be interpretated as correct…

Medjugorje is not included on this listing although statements by two bishops and a Commission were leaning toward a finding of a non-supernatural origin for the reports there. However, there are a number of supporters of Medjugorje who hold that the two Bishops have been impacted by the ethnic strife that has decimated the Balkans over the past decade and cannot be objective in their assesments.
