****We were fortunately blessed to have had a covenental Bethrothal Ceremony in Church 51 yrs. ago, being married a year later, and now celebrating out 50th anniversary (legally). My question refers back to Joseph and Mary’s Bethrothal, during which they were considered married during that first year that they lived apart. In God’s eyes, would we now be celebrating out 51st anniversary? The Priest who officiated at the Bethrothal ceremony warned us of the sacredness of what we were committing to and to not take it lightly. I know in my heart that making this Covenant between God and us has contributed to making this union last which was always God-centered, having produced 5 children and fostering 35 babies saved from abortion. And we realized also, that it (marriage) doesn’'t last because it was first God-centered, but lasted because that Covenant had to have an ongoing renewal…

The bethrothal ceremony is not a sacrament so no your marriage does not go back to that. You entered into the sacrament of marriage when you had your wedding.
