Better to Marry Than to Burn?

He says for the unmarried & widows, it is good to stay unmarried, but if they cannot control themselves, they should marry.

To me, this means that they should not have illicit relations with each other but should get married.
OK, I thought of that as well, that it is referring to burning within relationships, if they “can’t keep their hands off each other”.

Example: 1 Corinthians 7 36-38:

“36 If any one thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry–it is no sin. 37 But whoever is firmly established in his heart, being under no necessity but having his desire under control, and has determined this in his heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well. 38 So that he who marries his betrothed does well; and he who refrains from marriage will do better.”

Good quote, thank you!
So, I wonder, were there celibate male female relationships, long term?

If the hypothetical priest in question has a habit of sexual sin and is unwilling to break that vicious habit by self mastery through prayer, fasting, and such other spiritual remedies as the Church and her saints and doctors have recommended, then it would be advisable to seek marriage.
Wow, major error there. That should have read:

I had answered the question as pertaining to a priest in the first part of my post; the last part was meant to address the question as pertaining to the non-ordained.😊

If you mean celibate relationships between single people…probably not…That’s why St. Paul said they should marry rather than burn with passion for each other!

Regarding “burning,” it brings to mind Matthew 5:28: “But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
