I realized crying and complaining about my faults does not help neither does always focusing on them. How can I find a better use of my time instead being overly introspective? Some days I often want to just be done with this whole religion thing. I will never measure up. Every time I hear in church to work on a vice. Where do I begin? Do I select the most serious or most annoying? Going to confession and church is easy for me. It is difficult for me to forgive and to pray. Sometimes I feel like it makes me a bad Christian - I can do religion but I cannot do spirituality. I wish I were the opposite a person can be a good person if they are very spiritual not religious. There are plenty of good people who want nothing to with organized religion.

Your spiritual focus shouldn’t be yourself, or what you can change about your failures or shortcomings or vices. It should be about loving Jesus and opening yourself up to Him. It should be about cultivating gratitude for all that He does for you. It should be about permitting yourself to be entirely His, without reservation.

I love these prayers:
*
Jesus, I love You, possess me.

Lord, do in me what You will, do through me what You will, do with me what You will.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, burning with love for me, inflame my heart with love for Thee.*

Try slowly repeating these and other short prayers throughout the day. You’ll be amazed how tremendously helpful resting in them can be.

It is a very delicate matter to give anybody advice, not knowing your situation.

Start praying right where you are: God, please help me. I don’t even know what to ask for. Please give me what I need, spiritually and materially.

Read the bible and start a prayer life. Ask yourself: WWMD? What Would Mary Do? She 100% devoted her life to serving God and is our model in this life.

I would take what you have written above to an appointment with a priest or spiritual director; alternatively, to the Confessional. Most of all, pray daily. Doesn’t have to be long, a simple plea to Jesus from the heart. Example: “Jesus, I am so confused and struggling, please help me”

This^^^.

Also this is what I always say to people:
Get out there an serve the poor and homeless of the world. Be the hands and feet of Christ.
Visit the home bound of your parish. They are desperately lonely.
Put your efforts OUTWARD…

Actually, I think I’ve said all this to you before. :hmmm:

Feed the hungry at a soup kitchen. Work with disabled children.
Offer to plant annuals to brighten up the grounds of the parish.
Work the parish nursery so parents of babies and toddlers can attend Mass. They sorely need a break.
Join the choir. Lead the parish in song with the others.
Offer to vacuum the church. God loves having people working to beautify His house. 🙂

Read GOOD material. That, you can get from your priest. You need to talk to him.
Ask him to be your Spiritual Director. If he doesn’t have an opening…ask him to recommend someone else.

Get busy. The prince of lies would love for you to believe that you’ll never be good enough. That way he can get his little hooves into you. Don’t go for that.
NO WAY. He’s manipulative, and creeps into the recesses of our minds when we’re confused. Banish these thoughts from your head. Christ died for you. You’re worth it because Christ says you are.
Peace.

Ask your pastor if he could recommend a good Spiritual Director for you. I think your to hard on yourself and need to go easy. You may be more “spiritual” than you think but expect to much to soon. If you go to Confession, you have “measured up”! Maybe you could spend some quiet time with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. That always helps me when I am worried or anxious. Prayers, God Bless, Memaw

I feel like you too mate, my relationship is just so on/off with God that I feel it’s just not worth the hassle and beating myself up over things I can’t stop doing, no matter how much I pray for the strength to overcome such temptations. The concept of a spiritual life is practically dead from my own experience, so I agree with your sentiment of doing religion but not spirituality. Especially with the general disagreement on 'there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church, the fact that there id a possibility of atheists going to heaven invalidates the purpose of the Catholic faith when I could easily follow the example of such a person. I’m really at a dead end here.

CRATUS. Shoot. You’re one of the most questioning and authentic truth seekers around. If that doesn’t give you the answer already I’ll spell it out for you.

You’re already spiritual. The very fact of thinking these things. Of wanting to do better. Of being frustrated about it. Of crying and feeling lost and down about it. It’s all the same thing. Do you think the saints were always on cloud nine? I mean they pulled at their own hair at times.

Spirituality is a deep sense of doing what religion itself is only there to guide you at. Religion’s the sign posts. Spirituality’s the journey. And you’re on that journey. You’re on that path. Moving along with every new ask. With every open admission of being annoyed at where you are.

No marathon was ever run without a real feeling of being tired and sick along the way. It’s only when you’re feeling comfortable and rested that you know you’ve dropped out of the race.

So keep going.

Keep going.

You’ll get there. You’re making progress all the time. I can see it in your questions.

Peace CRATUS.

Your pal,

Trident

Also volunteer at an animal shelter. Dogs and cats and other animals need love and affection. I already adopted three dogs from two different shelters.

I also volunteered at one for a few months, but it was a bit far and I always got caught in traffic. But those kitties loved me. They would jump right into my arms!

You’ve got to be kidding.
You’d throw away your faith because you don’t want to see certain people in heaven?
We’re supposed to want everyone to have salvation.
I think you should re-visit “the purpose of the Catholic faith” in your life.
peace.

This direction from Saint Ambrose you may find helpful.

Pray especially for the whole body of the Church Offer God a sacrifice of praise and fulfill your vows to the Most High. If you praise God you offer your vow and fulfill the promise you have made. So the Samaritan leper, healed by the Lord’s word of command, gained greater credit than the other nine; he alone returned to Christ, praising God and giving thanks. Jesus said of him: There was no one to come back and thank God except this foreigner. He tells him: Stand up and go on your way, for your faith has made you whole.

The Lord Jesus, in his divine wisdom, taught you about the goodness of the Father, who knows how to give good things, so that you might ask for the things that are good from Goodness itself. He urges you to pray earnestly and frequently, not offering long and wearisome prayers, but praying often, and with perseverance. Lengthy prayers are usually filled with empty words, while neglect of prayer results in indifference to prayer.

Again, Christ urges you, when you ask forgiveness for yourself, to be especially generous to others, so that your actions may commend your prayer. The Apostle, too, teaches you how to pray; you must avoid anger and contentiousness, so that your prayer may be serene and wholesome.

He tells you also that every place is a place of prayer, though our Savior says: Go into your room. But by “room” you must understand, not a room enclosed by walls that imprison your body, but the room that is within you, the room where you hide your thoughts, where you keep your affections. This room of prayer is always with you, wherever you are, and it is always a secret room, where only God can see you.

You are told to pray especially for the people, that is, for the whole body, for all its members, the family of your mother the Church; the badge of membership in this body is love for each other. If you pray only for yourself, you pray for yourself alone. If each one prays for himself, he received less from God’s goodness than the one who prays on behalf of others. But as it is, because each prays for all, all are in fact praying for each one.

To conclude, if you pray only for yourself, you will be praying, as we said, for yourself alone. But if you pray for all, all will pray for you, for you are included in all. In this way there is a great recompense; through the prayers of each individual, the intercession of the whole people is gained for each individual. There is here no pride, but an increase of humility and a richer harvest from prayer.
