I have just committed a mortal sin, and I hate myself for it. I desire to go to confession now, but there are none being held, and no priest is answer my phone calls.

If I cannot go to a confession before tomorrow, are there any actions, prayers, practices that I can perform to ease my conscience?

I am ready to beat myself up over this stuff now. Any advice is welcomed, I hate this feeling of self-exclusion from Christ’s Church, I desire to be back inside His love.

If you make an act of perfect contrition then you will be forgiven for a mortal sin but you still must go to confession at the earliest possible convenience. The following link clarifies what an act of perfect contrition is:

Try getting down on your knees in front of a crucifix and tell the Lord how sorry you are for having offended him who gave his life for you. Be firm in your promise to him that you will not do this sin again. Then go to confession as soon as reasonably possible. Don’t put it off.

You are NEVER outside the love of God. Even if you are in mortal sin, God’s love for you is infinite. I know how you feel right now as I have been there many times myself. But many priests have told me that God hears our prayers and knows our hearts better than we know ourselves. God would do anything to see that you are not in the state of mortal sin. His Justice is infinite.

So, stay in contrite prayer. Do not repeat the sin and go to confession as soon as you can. God knows that you are sorry and that your full intention is to seek reconciliation with Him and His church. Do not despair. Smile because the closer we get to God the more we recognize our sinfulness and hate it the way that you do. You are on track and God knows that.

You are in my prayers…teachccd 🙂

I desire to go to confession now,… I desire to be back inside His love.
This sounds like a perfect act of contrition to me. You didn’t say one thing in your post about regretting your sin simply because of some worldly concern.

If I read you correctly, you are repentant of your sin because you “desire to be back inside His love.” God knows this and it will be counted for you if you die before sacramental confession.

You are far better off then you think you are:) I feel that the Holy Spirit is with you. Of course, don’t put of confession, but go when you can.

If there are no confessions scheduled, why not ask a Priest before Mass if he can hear your confession? I have done the same when I have committed a mortal sin. Though I have sometimes had to wait until after Mass (and missed communion), at least you will usually get your confession heard.

I’ll pray for you in any event.

I’m assuming that you are aware that the website that you are referring to considers Pope Benedict XVI and the late Pope John Paul II to be false anti-Popes and they believe that the true Pope is Pius XIII elected on October 24, 1998 and calls the Roman Catholic Church a “False Religion” and the “Kingdom of Satan” …

Getting back to the original post … be sure not to receive communion until you’ve had a chance to confess this sin for three reasons:

  1. *] Church teaching allows us to receive communion with an unconfesssed mortal sin ONLY during an emergency situation; and

*] receiving communion while in a state of mortal sin is another mortal sin and the bread of life becomes the bread of death (this is directly from Father Larry)

*] I’m assuming that you love our Lord and that is the reason that you would want to receive Him in the Eucharist but knowing that our Lord finds sins offensive, how do you show your love for the Lord if you invite Him into a soul stained with a mortal sin?

I did not realize that - I apologize to the other members of this forum. I wanted the answer to the question verified and took a short cut by googling the subject matter and this response came up first. Alas, I should have been more careful and checked the links with it. It does appears what he stated regarding an act of perfect contrition is valid. If not, could someone clarify? Thanks.
