I watched the video music awards last night.
Beyonce was the final act. Usually she puts on a good performance.
Last night it was really bad. At one point the word feminist was in big letters at the backdrop of the stage.
For one thing beyonce has so much money she is not like the average working woman. Also I am not sure what message she is sending to young women. Raunchy sexual overtones were throughout her performance. It was kind of sad because her little daughter was in the audience watching. I think beyonce is confused.

I don’t understand your point. Beyoncé can’t support the idea of equality between the sexes because she has a lot of money?

I have no idea about the raunchiness of her performance. Overt sexuality seems to be one of the standards of this show so I never watch it.

You probably had to see the performance to understand my point. It was a confusing message. My respect for her is declining. She used to be one of my favorite performers.

As someone who has almost always identified as feminist on some level, Beyonce just isn’t a feminist hero to me. I think her words are actions do not match up often and I think her image creates such a narrow self serving ideal of what a woman’s choices and options are, it almost flies in the face or what feminism is supposed to provide women.

I agree. I am not sure how she identifies as a feminist is necessarily good for all women.

I just think feminists can send confusing messages and not necessarily healthy ones for women.

Feminism isn’t a precise term. What Beyonce means is this:
"We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings the way that boys are. We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls ‘You can have ambition, but not too much’,” says the voice-over. “Feminist. The person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes.”
In other words, girls should imitate boys in their sexual behavior, implying, of course, that boys have better attitudes towards sex. Practically, this means that women should have more sex or act in a way that shows off their sexiness to boys. Of course, it also implies that men and women aren’t complementary, but the same.

Isn’t that the problem with our society today - being sexy. Having to feel like we have to look a certain way or we are unattractive.
And we aren’t the same physically or the way we think. I believe women can be as smart as men, but God did not create us to be the same. I feel Beyonce is wanting women to view their sexuality too liberally and should be telling them to respect themselves especially when it comes to sexuality.

Yes. That’s why you shouldn’t try to make sense of what Beyonce is saying. It’s influential, but stupid and confused. She thinks she’s saying something liberating, but the practical effect is that girls will act more sexual…to the benefit of boys.

When Beyonce acts sexually, she’s essentially doing it so that guys will look at her. What else could it be? I’m sure Beyonce doesn’t just dress like that around the house so that she can feel sexy.

This has always bothered me. Instead of encouraging men to be more respectful of women and more disciplined in their sexuality, feminists seem intent on becoming just as dehumanizing and animistic as some men. I’ve never understood why all feminists want to do is become men (and the worse elements of maleness at that).

If you understand this about the feminism, you’ll understand everything:

There’s the feminism that thinks that women shouldn’t be held back unfairly. Nobody has a problem with that.

Then, there’s the feminism based on Marxism. This is a problem because, like all Marxism, it’s based on perceptions of power. Since men are more powerful, in their estimation, women should be like men. Soft power, like family and “wiles,” are worthless because they don’t add to women’s power.

That’s why the left tends to dislike the military, except for women in the military, because women in the military show how women can be as powerful as men. Same for UFC fighters, etc.

Implicit in this is that women are a group competing with men, similar to how capitalists compete with the proletariat. That’s why feminists tend to see men suspiciously. Men are competitors and oppressors. Women and men aren’t a unit with each bringing unique gifts to that relationship.

Racial and homosexual studies are similarly rooted in Marxism.

Agreed. They way they structure relationships between different groups is always antagonistic and about power (victim - oppressor).
