Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Yes, First Friday Devotions to the Sacred Heart are especially appropriate during the month of June, dedicated to the Sacred Heart. I’ve also thought for a long time that the Divine Mercy Devotion is a further development in our learning of God’s Heart, through St. Margaret Mary and St. Faustina. To Margaret Mary, Jesus revealed His burning love for mankind, and to Sr. Faustina He revealed His desire to show Mercy through the outpouring of Blood and Water from His Heart.
I’m currently re-reading the book of Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s private writings, edited with commentary by one of the members of the Missionaries of Charity, “Come, Be My Light” in which Jesus called Bl. Mother Teresa to satisfy His thirst for souls. It has made me want to make the whole month of June filled with prayerful sacrifices – little things done with great love in reparation and especially acts of mercy toward those in need: spiritually and/or materially. As Bl. Mother Teresa herself said it is the lack of love which causes the most suffering.
My husband and I were privileged to meet and spend some time with two men who are blessed with the desire to offer reparation in very deep and compelling ways. My husband wrote about them in his blog. See HERE. This blog entry is entitled “Reparation: Freely Suffering for the Good of Another”. Few of us may be able to do anything similar to those two men who each embarked on pilgrimages, but all of us can do as Bl. Mother Teresa often urged: “Something Beautiful for God.”
On this First Friday, during this June, and indeed in all of our lives, by God’s Grace, may we offer Him, something beautiful to return love for Love.
