It is easy to understand the difficulty some persons have in accepting Chapter 6 of John’s Gospel, and understanding that Jesus literally meant what he said. We Catholics not only have the words of Scripture (as in Chapter 6, where Jesus PROMISES the Eucharist; we also have the fulfillment of Jesus’ Promise in Matthew’s Gospel: the last Supper, see chapter 26: 26-30. Also, we Catholics hold solidly not only to the Scriptures, but also to TRADITION, which involves our understanding of Jesus and his deeds from the testimony of the Apostles, and all that follows down through the centuries. We believe that Jesus gave the Apostles the authority to TEACH in His Name (. Mt. 16:15-20, and Mt. 28:18-20) I hope these reflections are helpful, Why do you not beleve in the tradition of the Church

It is not that non-Catholic Christians do not believe in tradition per se. They believe in their own traditions, though some may deny even that. Non-Catholic Christians have their own traditions while at the same time denying Catholic Tradition.

Some ncc’s have a problem with tradition when it seems to supercede scripture. Like the other poster said they all have their own specific traditions, some of which make no sense, especially if they are Bible Alone types. I don’t think tradition is the issue. I believe it is their faulty understanding of tradition and the rcc.

What is interesting when considering the Bible-alone types is that they still gather for worship services, listen to the preaching (i.e. the spoken interpretation of Scripture) of their pastor and accept this interpretation and yet cling to the belief of the Bible alone.

But on the flip side of that coin, they could say that Catholics accept whatever their priest says without thought. I’m not saying I necessarily agree with that, but it’s just a counter arguement.

I know that. I never said that. I said that ncc’s can say the same thing about cath’s that you said regarding ncc’s accepting their pastor’s words blindly.

Catholics are not Bible-alone Christians.
But we are bible Christians.

I think thats the assumption that most Protestants make is that they are taught by their pastors and believe that Catholics know nothing of the bible.

tHIS STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE If Cathloic do not accept all the priest has to say if they do not agree they can go to the Bishop. if NC do not believe who do they go to,the Sunday school teacher.

I would first go to the minister. If that didn’t resolve things I would go to Session (Board of Elders), then Presbytery. From Presbytery it can go to the General Assembly.

Bill,
What’s up with the Sunday School teacher thing? This is the second thread you’ve used it in this way.

Even an independent non-denominational Church has Pastor>Group of Elders(title may be different but same job) > Entire Church

First off, I never said the statement was true. Why do you get so worked up when people say things you disagree with, but the wonder why people do the same with you? And what’s up with the knock on NC? Are you mocking him or mocking the idea of a SS teacher? I have a feeling it’s the latter.

First off, go back and re-read your own words then come back to me. JonNC asked why you made the comments for the second time about SS (which you later answered by saying it’s a false thing), but you did not answer so I asked it again. Your answer proved that your only desire here is to tear down what Protestants believe. You don’t do it in charity; you just slam it and then get upset when others come back at you.

You responded to a post I made without even reading it all the way earlier, and I addressed that in my last post. That’s when you used caps to say THIS IS NOT TRUE. I knew it wasn’t. I was just throwing it out there. It was called a simple counter-arguement. You got all bent out of shape about it without even reading the context. Again, that is exactly what you do when others do the same thing you do. What hope do you have with starting the discussions that you start if you don’t like it when others come back after you after you say things that knock others? If you can’t take it why do you do it?

Why do you care if I am in a RCIA class?
