…and your point is…???

Hiyas:)

I took it as a point of reference only…no one said different

It is interesting. But usually there is a point to a thread on this section of the forum. Either it proves the religion false or true. However, if your point is just to show a reference it is an interesting point of reference. 🙂

I’m just posting some of them. Don’t you find them interesting?
Hi, Xavierlives,
Since the last item on your list is the word “Zion”, and that is an important concept from the Bible that may be misunderstood by some people, I thought that it would be well for whoever reads this thread and for you to understand that the word “Zion” when used in the Book of Mormon is talking about the latter-day Zion that Isaiah prophesied about several times. The Zion prophesied by Isaiah in the “last days” comes about when the people who are the covenant people of the Lord believe in Christ and live His gospel with the kind of purity and love for one another that allows the poor to “trust in it” and is a gathering that is a refuge from the storms. It is not just the area that is today known as the country of “Israel”, although eventually when the Jews believe in Christ after He returns to the earth, Jerusalem will become a prominent “Zion” location.

There will be places of Zion all over the world, and they will be “lands of promise” for each group of “covenant people” who live in those places. Many of those covenant people will be descendants of one of the twelve tribes of Israel, hence descendants of Abraham through his grandson, Jacob. Their spiritual peace and spiritual preparation will be a Zion condition, dwelling in unity, love and faith, and they will be “armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.”

Excellent. The discrepancies between the different concepts may indicate something. We all draw our own conclusions, given hard facts. 😉 For some, it might be a very difficult conclusion. :nope:

I didn’t want to draw any conclusions and this is by no means complete. I just looked at some of the topics and then how the sides were a bit weighter on on side of the aisle than the other.

Except that a concordance does not point out any discrepancies at all, a concordance only gives the page numbers of where a word is used.

That depends entirely upon what I’m trying to research. it’s as useful as doing exactly the same comparison between, say…the Gospel of Luke and Genesis.

You’re right but it shows the number of times they appear and I found that be be just as interesting as the “discrepancies” that you mention.

Some of them make perfect sense to me: Baptism of the Dead would make sense that it is mentioned more in Book of Mormon since it is a Mormon thing.

Maybe if this a comparison between Luke and Genesis, but alas, it is Bible & Book of Mormon Comparison. 🙂

Its not really a “Bible & Book of Mormon Comparison”.

It is a comparison of word usage in the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

An actual comprison would look at what each is saying.

The problem with that, of course, is that the bible isn’t one book. It’s a collection of many books…just as the Book of Mormon is a collection of many books. True, the Book of Mormon was (according to its own claims) an abridgment of those many books that were gathered into one by Mormon (hence the name of the entire collection) and translated by another, one, man. As a result, it makes some sense to treat it as one work…not much, mind you, but SOME.

It makes little sense to treat the Bible that way, though.

Therefore it actually makes more sense to compare Luke and Genesis in this way than it does to compare the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

Of course, if you want to compare, say…Nephi to one of the books of the Bible, that would be the same thing. Don’t quite know why you’d want to, though–at least not this way. I’m still trying to figure out why you did this. I can only imagine–were you bored? I’ve been dealing with the flu for the last three weeks, and am just now waving goodby to it (and yes, it WAS ‘swine flu.’ Miserable stuff.) And I’ll admit that there were some days when I too was bored out of my mind and looking for something that did NOT give me a terminal headache. I can guarantee you, though, that I wouldn’t have made the list you did. 😉

Oh, darn, NOW you have me curious. That would be more fun…and more useful!

The Book of Mormon was passed from one chosen keeper of it to the next. In part, that is a huge huge difference from the Old Testament and The Book of Mormon, and the New Testament and The Book of Mormon. Another is that whoever abriged the Bible is not known, where as it is the very choices that Mormon makes and which records that he is explicitely choosing that gives The Book of Mormon a bit more nieve or wholesome nature.

lyolee.

Hold on. So the Bible wasn’t passed in a valid way?

That is their belief: since the Catholic Church is and was an apostate church, it did not have the authority to transmit the Bible through the generations. This justifies the BoM.

You have a good idea going there. Refined, it may be very useful, to compare the level of emphasis on various doctrines by the first LDS.
