Bible Church? Anyone know this church?

My mother just joined this church. She is very against the Catholic faith and it seems I can’t get much out of her. She only wants to speak against my faith. I don’t think she even knows this church. Any info? I can’t find much on the internet.
 
It’s probably an independent fundamentalist (Baptist-type) church.
 
As far as I know there is no ‘denomination’ called the ‘Bible Church’. These seem to be more ‘community churches’ than anything. (By community church I mean a ‘stand alone’ church, not related to any denomination.)

In a city near me there is a parish calling itself the ‘Metropolitan Bible Church’.

An aside about the name ‘Bible Church’.
I read somewhere, maybe here at CAF, that (many) protestants believe in Jesus because of the bible, whereas Catholics believe in the bible because of Jesus.
That says a lot.
 
There are a lot of churches with Bible in the name, but AFAIK there is no specific denomination called that. There is one called Open Bible (which I used to attend), a mainstream Pentecostal denomination not greatly different from Assemblies of God or Foursquare.
 
Right. Typically a church calling itself “Bible Church” will be fundamentalist and more or less Baptist in theology, but you can’t be sure. There’s a church in North Carolina called “Chapel Hill Bible Church” which seems to be quite ecumenical and broadminded for an evangelical church, based on what I know of it (I never went to a church service there).

There are some conservative Wesleyan/Holiness denominations with “Bible” in the title (Bible Covenant, Bible Holiness), but I don’t think that’s what you’re dealing with.

That is one of the issues I have with such so-called “Bible-Only” churches. They seem to focus more on their hatred of the RCC and other mainlain Protestant churches, more than the Gospel. At times it seems their hatred for the RCC is stronger than their love for God.

Fine,one wants to open up shop (church) then go ahead,but stick to what is intended: Preach and follow the Word of God,not be bashing the RCC or other Christian churches.
 
The problem with vitriolic Bible-only churches is that they set up shop and don’t really sit down and come up with their core theology. They say the Bible is Right and Jesus is Lord and call it a day. Well…the Bible’s been translated and re translated many many times and there are versions with varying amounts of books and textual corrections soooo…WHICH Bible is right? Instead of facing the scrutiny of their seven-word theology, they begin denouncing every other denomination, congregation, and community as inherently wrong because to do otherwise would bring up too many questions that they are ill-prepared to answer.

At least Trail of Blood Baptists can all give you the same answers on WHY Catholicism is wrong. I’ll take that any day over a ranting and raving preacher spitting on everyone (yes…this happened to me when I made the mistake of going to church with a friend…I got pastor spit on my head)
 
I don’t know where your mother lives, but my friend goes to an Open Bible church. There are ones in other states, I live in California, she lives now in Washington and her sister attends one in Oregon. I used to attend sometimes when we were young.

I don’t recall anyone speaking in tongues, I know they raised there arms alot and said alleluia. Every service had an altar call and all of us were expected to go up.

There were some very nice people who attended, but there was so much stuff going on behind the scenes by the preacher’s son-in-law and the elders, that it made me glad not to belong to that church. Most of the kids did everything they were not suppose to do.

The women wore long hair, long dresses and no make up, but those things probably have changed since I was a girl.

Actually my friend is pretty open minded towards my beliefs as a Catholic and as I recall the youth were always trying to save me and I wasn’t even Catholic at the time, but wore a crucifix.

I will say I had some fun times there.

The One Holy Catholoic and Apostolic Church is a Bible church!! THe only church I ever went to that made the whole Bible make sence…

I am thankful that I found His Church.
 
Only thing actually I got from her was that they waved palms on Palm Sunday.They also don’t call Easter,Easter Sunday.They call it resurrection Sunday. I actually never heard a protestant church do that. But she sounds like a baptist or church of Christ when she speaks of “faith alone”.
 
On the other hand, many churches call themselves ‘Bible’ churches because they don’t want to put people off by being connected to a specific denomination. There is a relatively large one where I live and it isn’t a fundamentalist Baptist Bible-only one. It is evangelical and has a big outreach, ‘seeker’ program. By calling itself a Bible church, I think they want to appeal to the largest number of people.

It sounds like any other non-denominational. Incredibly flawed, dangerous because their hatred bars them from realizing the grace of God despite their claims to possessing it, and generally loud and obnoxious.

I’m very sorry your mother got sucked in by them. 😦 I will include you and her in my Rosary intentions.

Resurrection Sunday is a very common terminology in evangelic circles since Easter has become associated mainly with “Spring” break from school, pink dresses, bunnies and painted eggs in the general society

Yep. If I were the OP, I’d get a book about fundamentalism/fundamentalists and use that to help with the attacks on my faith. You can find some books like that here at the Catholic Answer’s Shop.

Yeah I always thought it was rather odd that there is no denomination known as “Bible Church”. At least if there is, I’ve never heard of it. But seriously, you would think that with Protestant’s emphasis on the Bible alone, they’d incorporate this into their name as well.

I have found two Churches which could be the ones you are dealing with:

But since you say that they (together with your mom) are extremely anti-catholic, I would guess we are talking about the FFBC (which is btw a VERY young Church. Founded only 1939!)

I am also not a Catholic Christian but I am in an Evangelical Church that would never dare to talk bad about Catholics! We are all part of the One Body Of Jesus Christ and we are all Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus.
Pray for your mom that she will find out that the Catholic Church is not a “sect” but that it is also a Christian Church just like everyone else.
It took also me for a while to realize that because my first Evangelical Church (and my spiritual mom) was extremely anti-Catholic as well.

Bring up Easter with these folks and sit back for a long diatribe about its pagan origins and how you are actually worshiping false gods. In other words, they worship a god so puny and limited that he cannot even snatch an egg from a pagan and give it to his children even when that pagan has been dead and gone for 2,000 years and counting. Thanks but no thanks.

Good luck with your mother, Keep praying for her and keep in contact. The path of faith has some dark paths and blind alleys, so stand by her as she has to pass through these points.
 
Here is the answer to the OP question in 2 simple steps:
  1. Get Get a copy of this churches Statement of Faith.
  2. Read it
A copy of the statement of faith should be available from the church and may be posted on their website if they have one.
