Hey, yall!

I cant seem to find a free downloadable Catholic bible approved by the bishops that i can run on my linux box, im running ubuntu. Does anyone have an idea where i might get one, I have already seen the catholic community bible, and a douay rheims but i was unimpressed with the community bible and Wine doesnt like to run the douay for me,( im not much of a computer expert). thanks
 
I have the same problem I can not find a free one or one that you can pay for that will run on my linux box either. However wine works better if you are using the lastest ubuntu download hardy heron 8.04 I can get the windows .exe program faith of our father Bible program to work kind of ok on linux. Some the the featchers are free but to get it to get the full featchers you will have to pay for it. to check what version of ubuntu you are running the lasted ubuntu
  1. Applications → Accessories → Terminal
  2. Type the following at the prompt:
    cat /etc/lsb-release
  3. It should output something similar to mine, which looks like this:
    DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
    DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
    DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
    DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=“Ubuntu 8.04.1”
I´m shure you know this so please do not take offence but make sure you have all the updates for ubuntu and I find that it helps to use the most resent kernel that ubuntu has for 386. To find what which one you have open terminal and type ¨sudo uname -r¨ mine is 2.6.24-21-386. Also have you tried ubunu forums at ubuntuforums.org/ to see if they could not help you with the problems you are having with wine?
 
sorry I made a mistake the windows .exe i can get to kind of work is from thisisthefaith.com/ I heard about it from ewtns open line. Also keep it mind I have not paid for the full verison I´m using the free version that they provide so that could be some of my problem and also I´m using wine so some of the programs that it uses like adobe reader are in different places and in different formats. Adobe reader has a .deb version for linux that will work with Ubuntu because Ubuntu uses the .deb file extention. The Adobe reader is version 8 and can be download for free from the adobe web site.

I do happen to have the current distro and kernel. I will check out the resources you mentioned. If i happen across anything interesting i will shoot you a line.

e-Sword is gratis. I’ve forgotten which translation it has, that has an imprementeur. 😦 However, that version is not gratis. [It also requires e-Sword 8.0, which hasn’t been publicly released yet.]

I use e-Sword under Wine, on Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit.

i just upgraded to intrepid ibex, the posted release candidate, i havent had a chance to play with it much but maybe that might help
