Bible in a Year

I am roughly following a reading plan, though I’m not super-rigid about it. If I miss a day, I just pick up where I left off.

I’ve gone through this plan several times and each time find so much that stands out in a new way!

I am reading the Bible in a year. I am using the reading guide at Wordpress. It basically uses a format familiar to the liturgy. Every day has an Old Testament reading, a New Testament reading, and a passage from the Psalms, or Proverbs. I started on January 1st and have not skipped a day. I am so glad that I finally committed to reading the entire Bible. I set time aside every evening. I call it my “homework”, but I have literally gotten to the point that I am unable to fall asleep if I do not complete the reading for the day.
 
I used to follow the daily readings of
Our Daily Bread, which goes thru the
Protestant Bible in one year. But now
I just read a chapter from the Old Test-
ament and one from the New every day.
 
I’m not…I’d rather work at my own pace…I may never read the bible cover to cover.
 
I started the guide from Wordpress last night. Once I saw how short the first day was I went ahead and did the whole week. Maybe I can do it in 52days then? I imagine they will all not be that short.

I have always been curious how many people actually follow one of these plans. Anyone ever done a study that way? With group of people?
 
I’m getting ready to start the one year plan in “How to Read the Bible Every Day.”
 
I have been reading the bible for like over 2 years but not more than 3. I read the 4 gospels first. The started from Genesis and read though to Chronicles. Got bored and jumped back to the new testament, and read acts, roman and am working on 2 Corinthians right now.

Aside from the daily mass readings (which are kind of random so I don’t really consider them the same as “reading” the bible in the same way that a sound bite is not really the news). I can only manage reading the bible in spurts. One day I will finish it!
 
A podcast I listen to tried to read the Bible in a year. Numbers was rough as was Chronicals. Right now he has been at it for threeish years and is on Matthew.
 
Okay. I am finding this a really wonderful experience.

I will be travelling for a training class next week. I will have some airtime and hotel time to read.
 
Just as an aside: the Bible has roughly 1,333 chapters.

Reading it through in a year would mean reading about 4 chapters per day.

I found this information very useful when I first learned it, since one’s “reading plan” could be as flexible as one should like, provided they read the required amount of chapters daily. The plan could also be adjusted to read the Bible through in, say, six months, or maybe even four. 🙂
