Bible Memorized?

I’m working here in Qatar, an Islamic State and often times hearing some moslem friends that most of them has memorized the qur’an.

They boast that even if every qur’an in the world are lost or burned still, they can rewrite and recite it whole.

So I keep on wondering if there is/are people who (have) memorized the Bible OT and NT?

Not sure about the NT ,but Jews were used to recite the whole OT from heart every 7 years in public.

Not sure about the NT ,but Jews were used to recite the whole OT from heart every 7 years in public.

Still pretty big. I’d love to see anyone who claimed to have the whole thing memorized actually prove it. (Although asking one to do it would probably not earn you anything but grief.)

As for the Bible, there are so many versions that differ from each other in who knows how many ways…

Although, maybe I just betrayed my own ignorance; is there just one official version of the Bible that catholics use?

Technically yes and no. Overall the Latin Vulgate is supposed to by the most authentic translation and the Council of Trent affirms that. It is declared error free in moral and doctrinal matters. English versions are a different story. The U.S. it is the NAB, some countries it is the NRSV, RSV-CE or Jerusalem Bible.

I suppose the New Testament, or most of it at least, must have been written in Latin, given that Rome had spread that language everywhere in the region by the time its books were written.

The Vulgate contains both the Old and the New Testaments, together. It’s as close as we have to an “official” Bible.
