You {IF MY memory serves?, Posed a reply without the quote you were addressing.🙂

God Bless you,

Patrick
Ahhh… could have. Sometimes my replies are to a specific person, sometimes they are that, but also a general statement. I usually post quotes when I want the specific poster to take note. But I could have simply goofed up…😊

Been THERE & done THAT too:D

Thanks to all who responded here to my posts. I am familiar with most of the arguments since I was for many years Catholic.
There are many arguments I could cite in reply but I offer one that I think comprehends the
decisive charge against the Roman Church’s claims:

The bible portrays God dealing with the earth and the heavens. He promised Israel an earthly kingdom, and separately He called one apostle to preach the Body of Christ, which inherits the heavens.

Roman Catholicism totally confuses the purposes of God with wrong teachings of what the bible actually says.

There is no difference between the sects that differ, and the members of the Catholic Church who also differ. Today, there is no authority except the Holy Spirit Who wrote the scripture, and the scriptures themselves. So our only recourse can be to go to the scripture and seek guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Church removes itself from consideration as authoritative by the fact it is in opposition to the doctries Paul received from Christ only. The 12 apostles did not teach Gentiles but only Israel.

As I said above, the Catholic church has no authority to claim it is before the bible, since it disagrees with what the bible contains…

On the basis of “conceived without original sin” God could have done the same with the children of our first parents and none of us would be sinners and the death, burial and resurrection of God’s beloved Son would not have had to occur. Mary was as everyone else and needed to be saved as do we.
There bible wasn’t compiled into one book with one canon until the fourth century.

Peter the apostle appointed pope Linus who appointed clement and so forth in the first century.

Ignatius of Antioch was the third bishop of Antioch during the first century.

The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch (Acts 11)

That, without any proof whatsoever, is a perfect example of the confused and misled – of someone placing themselves above God – for it the Son of God, the Christ, who established His Catholic Church, and She gave us the Sacred Scriptures as the Word of God thus guaranteeing their authenticity. This is clear in the Bible.

The Church established by the Christ has the name “Catholic” because it was first used by St. Ignatius of Antioch (A.D. 35-107) in his Letter to the Smyrneans, 8, 2: “Where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.” It is from the Greek *katholike *meaning “general” or “universal”. Within 90 years it meant also “orthodox” or faithful to the teachings of Christ. (The Catholic Catechism, Fr John A Hardon, S.J., Doubleday, 1975, p 217).

I just began attending my first ever group bible study at my (Edited) parish. There is gospel reading and discussion. After a couple of sessions I am getting the feeling that some members of the group are gravitating toward a more protestant understanding of the role the Bible plays in our Catholic tradition. Am I reading too much into this, or is there potential danger of our Bible study groups becoming crypto-evangelicals? If so, is this a problem?
