What translations are used? In particular, I’d like to know about what is used at UGCC in English. In general, I’d like to know what is used elsewhere – in English or otherwise.

Also, what Bible translation do you use for personal devotion?
 
I really want to read bible. Thanks for sharing this information. I like this post.
 
As far as personal use, do any of you use the NAB or the Orthodox Study Bible or … ???
 
I use the RSV-CE, but suppliment it with the NAB and Orthodox Study Bible. If I had my 'druthers I’d also use the Apostol (Apostolic Letters) and Evangelion (Gospels) of Archbishop Joseph Raya and Baron Jose de Vinck. But those books cost a fortune. Still, it’s best to use multiple translations of Scripture in order to get a broader understanding of the text.

Thanks, Phillip. I’m checking out the Orthodox Study Bible from my library.

I use various translations too – RSV-CE, NAB, New Jerusalem, etc. And I sometimes supplement those by looking up the original words/passages in Greek with help of a concordance. I don’t read Greek at all, but I like finding out what the original words were and the various ways of translating them.

I do a similar thing. I like looking up the Greek words just to see the wide range of possible translations.

As far as the Orthodox Study Bible is concerned, it is not much different from the NKJV, and in many places is simply a slight revision thereof. Also, the commentaries themselves are highly debated, even among the Orthodox. So the general recommendation says that one should take the commentary in the OSB with a grain of salt. It does not necessarily represent Orthodox belief or understanding. Still, it is a good source book.
