I’m in the process of researching which bible version would be better for me.
Does anyone know what version of the bible is used for Mass?

Thanks!!

The NAB is the official version used in the US. That being said, the Vatican insisted on some wording changes in the NAB text used in the mass. What you can buy will not always match what you can hear.

I prefer the RSV-2CE and Douay Rheims over the NAB.

The NAB is used but modified it is referred to as the RNAB. I prefer the Douay-Rheims over all other Bibles though

The ignatious press Bible is pretty good, it’s said to have a more literal translation of the original scriptures. It helps to learn the languange of God, and expands your vocab. 👍

But if you want something easy to read, I would go for the NAB.

The version used at Mass is based on the NAB but has been modified enough that it could be considered its own version.
It is not available as a complete Bible. You can of course buy a lectionary so you can have the Mass readings as you hear them at Mass.

Thank you all for your (name removed by moderator)ut! I hadn’t thought about buying a lectionary…I might do that.
I currently have an NAB but am researching for a new bible.

Thanks again!

Just remember it’s a total of 4 large volumes. A, B, C plus Sunday.

You can buy smaller versions. The St. Joseph Weekday and Sunday Missals, for example. No need to buy the large, expensive hardbound tomes used at Mass.

I like the big ones they use at mass. I can picture myself going to a bible study with a Big A,B,C and apparently Sunday Bibles sitting next to someone with a compact bible…😉

I personally like the Jerusalem Bible and RSV-CE.

Jerusalem Bible with the Grail Psalms for me, what with being a Brit and all…thats our lectionary.

They’re finally published together in the CTS New Catholic Bible if anyone hasnt already heard, haha I post it often enough!😃

The Douey-Rheims Bible is my favourite and it contains the Haydock Commentary.

I wish they just would publish the NAB version used for mass and eliminate alot of confusion. Until then I will use my RSV-CE published in 66 and my Saint Joseph New Catholic Edition published in 62 (both purchased used.)
:amen:

But then again as many of you may or may not know, they used NRSV-CE up in Canada since 1994. It was only approved offically by the Vatican in 2007.

Let me ask this…
Would these St. Joseph missals also be affected when they come out with the new translation of the roman missal?
Does anyone know when they are coming out with it?
I found an article saying 2010 and then another saying 2009…I’m so confused…
