Genesis 8:21-22

*And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I ever again destroy every living thing as I’ve done.

While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night, Shall not cease *

My interpretation of it is that even though we continue to pullout the atmosphere, that God will never let us destroy it. Except when His son comes back, which is when the earth is suppose to end. But until then, all Seasons will remain, along with cold and hot. While I don’t doubt that green house gasses can heat up the earth; I do think the theory that it will destroy the earth is false. This is just me. What do you all think? Also lets not get political. And stick to GW and the bible. Thanks

God didn’t say He would never let “us” destroy it, He said He - “I” - will never again …

I don’t God would let us destroy His planet? He worked so hard at creating us and this planet. Surly he’d wouldn’t let our ignorance come in the way of His plans. Only when Jesus comes back will He put a finally end to earth.

I do think God might let us destroy His planet - that we may well have a role in determining when the end will come. Overall control will of course be God’s.

I would compare it to the role man had in determining the time and occurance of the crucifixion. The crucifixion occurred because of human choices. It was men who chose to accuse Jesus when they did, and men who executed Him. Yet it was God who exercised final control, ensuring that it did not happen prior to His will. Men had wanted to destroy Jesus earlier, yet something prevented them.
*(Luke 4:29-30 And they rose up and put him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong. But passing through the midst of them he went away.) *

In the same way, it’s possible men could have a role in the timing of the end of the world and the second coming of Our Lord. God may well let us humans be the instrument of destroying (making unliveable) the earth. Perhaps that will be a factor in the “timing mechanism” for the end of the world. But it won’t happen one second before, or after, the moment God wills.

What concerns me more than the material corruption of our planet is the wide scale moral corruption. Scripture passages from the time of Noah (Gen 6:5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.) and the time of Sodom and Gomorrah come to mind. Those are the only times I recall off hand where God acted directly, in a large way to cause destruction on earth, and it was because of WIDE SCALE sin.

But it is always, always, reassuring to know that God is in control and He loves us.

There is a body of thought that Noah’s flood was the result of a meteor impact. [Apparently there is a layer containing some Iridium or some such.]

So, if the Earth could survive Noah’s flood, it can survive anything.

i think that we are capapble of destroying it. then again God does work through us so if that is the cases then it will not be destroyed

37. Equally worrying is the ecological question which accompanies the problem of consumerism and which is closely connected to it. In his desire to have and to enjoy rather than to be and to grow, man consumes the resources of the earth and his own life in an excessive and disordered way. At the root of the senseless destruction of the natural environment lies an anthropological error, which unfortunately is widespread in our day. In all this, one notes first the poverty or narrowness of man’s outlook, motivated as he is by a desire to possess things rather than to relate them to the truth, and lacking that disinterested, unselfish and aesthetic attitude that is born of wonder in the presence of being and of the beauty which enables one to see in visible things the message of the invisible God who created them. In this regard, humanity today must be conscious of its duties and obligations towards future generations.

It has nothing to do with global warming - and everything to do with promising not to repeat the Flood in the story.​

No. Nita is right it. It is God’s Word. I’ve seen that written before as GW. I know the abbreviation GW does have other meanings too. I can see it was a mistake putting GW.

We may have a role in fact we probably do somehow have a role in determining how the world will end; with- like Nita said- God being the ultimate authority.
