i have a friend who is a member of Iglesia ni Kristo who spoke to me about 3 verses:

Job 14:12- he said that this verse is a proof that the souls of the dead will continue to sleep and rise only in the final judgement, clearly against the catholic teaching, how do i explain to Him this verse?

John 8:58- he said that in Judges 13:11 when the angel said to manoah “I am”,that doesnt mean that the angel is God, so Jesus saying “I am” also means that Jesus is not God, how do i explain to him?

Mt. 1:23-he said that Jesus having the name Immanuel doesnt mean Christ himself is God, since meaning of one’s name does not denote one’s nature or state of being. he cited examples like Peter, whose name means rock but doesnt mean that he is a rock, john and James who were named sons of thunders but were not born to a thunder or the last of the 13 sons born to King David was named Eliphelet meaning “the God of deliverance” but this doesn’t mean that David’s son is the God of deliverance himself. How do i explain this to him?

Here is the crux, they don’t believe Jesus is God.
Here’s an article you might like to read:

I don’t have an ‘official’ answer to hand, but reading this, I think your friend is not really comparing like with like. What I mean be this is that Job speaks of the Old Covenant - however Christ established a New Covenant between Man and God when he died and rose from the dead. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but when Christ descended into Hell, the souls of the righteous who had died before Christ were ‘rescued’ from Hell… So the souls of those of the Old Covenant slept until Christ redeemed them by his death and resurrection… While the Old Testament is important to us in learning about man’s relationship with God before Christ, it is the New Covenant from Christ’s sacrifice which is at the core of a Christian’s beliefs.

The quote from John and Judges - surely this might be somewhere where faith comes in… I mean, anyone can, for example, dress up in a Superman costume, but by reasonable deduction, a person can see that it is only a disguise! Christians too have reasons why they believe Christ is God…maybe, for example, fulfillment of prophecies, miracles, His Resurrection, and the unwavering faith of billions of Christians, past and present…

He needs to read Johnson’s book Shades of Sheol. simply point out that revelation is progressive, and he is quoting form the first book of that revelation revealed, so it makes sense he is going to have an incomplete viewpoint. Pull out the NT, proof texts about afterlife.

If you read Judges 13, you will see that the angel in question is the “angel of the Lord” whom we know from Exodus 3 is God. Many believe that the angel of the Lord is the preincarnate son of god, Jesus. see, theophanies

Right, normally a name does not make one God. But, Matthew is quoting a prophecy about the Messiah. And, that prophecy Isaiah 7 is describing the nature of the Messiah, along with Isaiah 9:6, etc., Micah 5:2

aside, it appears that the source of his arguments are from Jews for Judaism in these cases, So look for the four volume set by Brown Answering Jewish Objections.
