Dear Guys,

Please tell why is it that the Bible has chapters & verses? Certainly, the writers did not write that way.

Not only were there no chapters or verses, there was virtually no punctuation. Archbishop Stephan Langton helped to divide the books of the Bible into chapters (abt 1244 A.D.). I am unsure who and when the chapters were then divided into verses.

Jews had developed a verse numbering system but the system we use was numbered by Robert Stephanus a Parisian printer whose numbering,I believe, we still use. Numbering makes it easy to look up a particular verse- around 1500ad.
 
Chapters and verses are used by Fundamentalists even though it’s use is found nowhere in the bible!!:eek: :eek:
