You can download the St. Jerome’s Latin Vulgate Bible in english

here:sacredbible.org/files/CPDV%2010pt%208.5x11%20final.pdf

I wish every catholic would have this bible. It is very simple, understandable, even if you are 3rd graders. Well, st faustina was 3rd graders, yet she was a deep mystic

That is not an approved Catholic translation. That is one guy (Ron Conte) who took it upon himself to translate the Vulgate’s Latin to English. But the translation is his.

Sorry, I’m just a bit suspicious of one random guy on the internet’s translation of the Bible. What are his qualifications?

If you want an English translation of the Vulgate, go with the Douay–Rheims.

Seconded actually, if you want an english version of the Vulgate you are better served by the Douay Rheims bible which will be far more representitive with it’s usage of old english. The Douay is truely the closest thing you will have to St. Jerome’s vulgate in english, it is very very literal.

If you really want to read St. Jerome’s bible however, you will have to learn latin well enough to read it in it’s native tounge. Something I have not yet done, but I hope I will be able to one day. God bless,

I am enroled in Latin 101. I’m informed that if I cannot read the Bible in Latin by the end of Latin 102 then I have done something seriously wrong.

I am inclined to use the Douay-Rheims Translation for two reasons:

Firstly, it is an accurate and literal translation of the Latin Vulgate of St. Jerome, which has been used in the Roman Rite for centuries and was produced by one of the greatest Scripture scholars of the Holy Church. It was translated in the the late 16th and early 17th centuries, soon after the Council of Trent. It was approved by the Church, unlike other texts which have their roots in disobedience and an unholy curiosity. More modern translations are helpful because of their scientific accuracy, but are occasionally polluted with erroneous notes on the interpretation of the text. The continued use of the Douay-Rheims by the Church attests to its soundness.

Secondly, the style of the Douay-Rheims reflects the high Latin style of the Vulgate. In other words, it is poetic and exalted. The Douay-Rheims is not slavishly accurate like the Wycliffe translation, but very reflective of the Vulgate. This poetic style is exactly what St. Augustine praises in De Doctrina Christiana, for it delights the mind, meets the mind’s need for work in interpretation, and protects the text from careless abuse.

Catholics should use Catholic bibles. With that said, there are many translations available to us. I was in a bible study and there were four or five different bibles being used. Often times there were different ways of looking at each message. Personally, I enjoy using study bibles because of the footnotes.

I admit I made a mistake…

I’m new to this whole catholic bible.

I thought all bibles are the same…

Turns out, we do have catholic bibles, glad to know. I think it’s the safest.

I just knew about the Latin Vulgate bible and Douay Rheims just some months ago. It gives many lights.

Here I recommend the catholic bibles:

Douay Rheims Bible: drbo.org/
New Jerusalem Bible: catholic.org/bible/
New American Bible: vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/_INDEX.HTM

You can download this bible using this free program:
download.cnet.com/WinWSD-WebS…-10562531.html

Actually the bible that I use from the site sacredbible.org/
is really translated by this guy named Ron, it isn’t approved by the holy see, but I liked it a lot.

It says a new translation of the Latin Vulgate, using the Douay Rheims as a guide. He named it Catholic Public Domain Version.

I found it when I was looking for a free catholic bible in pdf form to download. And is really satisfied. I read the psalms every day, as a breviary.

That depends on each person though.

I personally recommend the Douay Rheims bible (drbo.org/). It is with excellent commentaries. Read it every day. It will help your faith.

Reading the scriptures has become a joy to me now

Sorry guys for the confusion
