The words of Lev. 18:9 are attributed directly to God. Look at 18:1"And the Lord said to Moses".

These are not laws that Moses made. They are laws that were given by God to Moses. How can thay not be di8vine?
The Divine Law does not change. The Divine Law defines those things that are instrinsically disordered-- those things that are always wrong in all times and all places.

In addition to the Divine Law, God has also required disciplines throughout time that have varied. These disciplines must be obeyed while in force, but they can change, and have done so.

They are not the same thing.

Consider this: Adam and Eve began bearing children. At the earliest point in the history of mankind, *who else *was there to procreate with besides your biological brother or sister?

Later on, God forbade it, as well stated above.

The one who accuses you isn’t using common sense.
The spiritless men of earth which were created beforehand… Earth wasn’t created 6007 years ago… I’m certain… God told his newest creations to go forth and REPLENISH the Earth and as I have said before… you can only replenish something that has been used before… So Adam and Eve had their children… and their children mated with the spiritless men to create offspring that contained a spirit… I don’t believe there was any incest.

What you believe, and what the Church teaches are two different things.

What you believe, and what the Church teaches are two different things.
Right… but the Church doesn’t give a reasonable answer for everything, either… The Church here on earth does have it’s limits in knowledge… I personally wouldn’t believe a church that taught that my great ancestors were all guilty of incest… And after that they say God CHANGED HIS MIND? I think God would have planned everything perfectly… and even so, through all that incest we’d have horrible deformations on our flesh…

You only take that stance because you believe marrying relatives is intrinsically wrong. The bible shows it is not-- as has been mentioned, Sara and Abram were closely related.

And, the Church is infallible in matters of faith and morals, therefore I believe her implicitly.
And after that they say God CHANGED HIS MIND?
No one has said he “changed his mind”. Incest outside the direct line is not intrinsically disordered. God added restrictions during a time and place where it was necessary. Just as he restricted the diet of the Jews where it had not previously been restricted.
I think God would have planned everything perfectly…
Of course he did. And, then Man sinned through his free will.
and even so, through all that incest we’d have horrible deformations on our flesh…
That is a result of Original Sin and the fallen nature of the world.

Do you really know that I take that stance because I think marrying relatives is wrong? I could care less who did what… I take that stance because I have read the beginnings of Genesis and have made connections with the vision brought to Jeremiah… The earth was formless and void… “I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.” in Jeremiah 4:26 … So God came BACK to the earth and DESTROYED some number of civilizations after the earth was created… so there were DEFINITELY men living beforehand… and then it goes on to say how God created the rivers and oceans and everything new that lived on the earth… You also see that God said let there be light… to possibly remove the ashes and dust that arose from the earth from his destruction of the previous civilizations? It makes sense doesn’t it?

On the subject on the infallibility of church… yes it’s a touchy subject to some of you… but let’s think, suppose the Church that arose from Christ’s time didn’t continue? That means you can’t trace any church back to that time… and even so… the Church being led by man can introduce certain doctrines which God might not see favorable… if he left the Church they could still continue on with their normal traditions without even knowing he left… You don’t know for certain if the Holy Spirit is present in your church, why are you so adamant? If anything is infallible presently on the earth it’s the Bible, more so than the Church can ever be.

If ever there were a case against personal interpretation of the Bible, you have just made it.
It makes sense doesn’t it?
No. It makes absolutely no sense at all. This is so far off the mark, I don’t even have words for it.
On the subject on the infallibility of church… yes it’s a touchy subject to some of you…
It’s not a “touchy subject” at all.
You don’t know for certain if the Holy Spirit is present in your church, why are you so adamant?
Because Christ is not a liar.
If anything is infallible presently on the earth it’s the Bible, more so than the Church can ever be.
The bibe is inerrant, not infallible.

The Church is infallible.

“Personal Interpretation!” yet you never provide any proof- and I don’t think God destroyed and remade the earth so that it was void again! HE PROMISED He would not destroy humanity again, it’s the same vision and that same vision shows cities of men!

With everyone I have talked with over the subject, they agree that connection does make sense… and also being that again, you can not replenish something which hasn’t had anything in it before.

The Bible is inerrant, sure, I wasn’t thinking about that so I do denounce my previous belief and come to say… no church present on earth today is infallible. The Bible is our only current source of Truth that we can all agree on with certainty… thus the Bible is a better choice for a source of religion, not the Church.

I know Christ doesn’t lie, but churches controlled by man can, and they will. Christ said the gates of hell will not prevail against his church, and it was also mentioned that the Church was the pillar and foundation of Truth… but still… that’s God’s Church, not man’s.

If you need me to actually bring out the quotes from the Bible I will so do it… if you are unable to access your own Bible… hmm I wonder?

Genesis 1:1-4

“In the beginning God created the Heaven, and the Earth. And the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”

Jeremiah 4:23-26

“I beheld the earth, and lo, it was without form and void: and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and lo they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his FIERCE ANGER.”

It’s the same vision.

See the Catechism on the Fifth Commandment and what it encompasses. Jesus explained the Commandment and reiterated it. He did not change it.
Hmmm. It seems to me that your own words proves otherwise:
2262 In the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord recalls the commandment, "You shall not kill,"and adds to it the proscription of anger, hatred, and vengeance. Going further, Christ asks his disciples to turn the other cheek, to love their enemies. He did not defend himself and told Peter to leave his sword in its sheath.

If you need me to actually bring out the quotes from the Bible I will so do it… if you are unable to access your own Bible… hmm I wonder?
Is that kind of sarcasm called for?
Jeremiah 4:23-26
“I beheld the earth, and lo, it was without form and void: and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and lo they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his FIERCE ANGER.”
It’s the same vision.
It is the same vision. It’s the vision in the whole context of Jeremiah chapter 4. It’s the destruction of Jerusalem.

Then we have an empty void (as God has left His people), and then the comings of a new Genesis. What is this new Genesis? You read of it in the John’s Gospel. It’s the New Creation account in chapters 1 & 2 leading up to and including the Wedding in Cana.

At least that’s my opinion of this text.

In the Navarre Bible commentary, we read:
Christian tradition has read what Jeremiah says about the destruction that awaits Judas as a reference to the destructive power of sin, which undermines the wise order stamped by God on creation and which undermines peace and stability. When man fails to acknowledge his God (v. 22), the earth falls back into the chaos and emptiness that marked the beginning of creation (cf. Gen. 1:2), the lights of heaven go out, the mountans quake, and ther is no trace of bird or man (vv. 23-26). Anyone who aspires no further than created things will only be disappointed, and can never have intimacy with God.

With everyone I have talked with over the subject, they agree that connection does make sense… and also being that again, you can not replenish something which hasn’t had anything in it before.
Except that you are reading “all of creation” into this Apocalyptic vision, when Jeremiah is talking of the destruction of Judah.
But, the bible tells us to go to the Church for Truth - See Matthew 18. Yes, the Bible is inerrant, so when the Bible says “Take it to the Church”, Catholics say, “Yea, and Amen!”

No where does the Bible claim that it is the only source of Truth, or that it is the only thing needed to know the Truth.
I know Christ doesn’t lie, but churches controlled by man can, and they will. Christ said the gates of hell will not prevail against his church, and it was also mentioned that the Church was the pillar and foundation of Truth… but still… that’s God’s Church, not man’s.
And, you have yet to prove that the Catholic Church today is not the Church that Christ left us.

And Christ promised that He would stay with His Church til the end of the Age. There is only one Church that has been in existence since the Apostolic Times.

I promise I won’t yell at you. If you have legitimate gripes, they might be taken to another thread (but let us know, please), for we are in grave danger of hijacking this thread.
Yes, I misworded that previous paragraph… I do believe that God’s Church is a source of truth for us, but presently (this is what I meant to say) the Bible is the one thing we KNOW is truthful for CERTAIN, unlike churches where you can only take guesses… and THAT we can agree on, if not, most of us. If you need an example… There is only one Holy Bible where there are dozens of religions and churches that claim to follow it… but since there are so many churches… which one is the correct one? Well obviously the one that bases itself on God’s Word…

I don’t blame Catholics for believing that the Catholic Church is the foundation and pillar of truth because that is what you are taught to believe, I don’t believe I can blame any of you but your Church’s Hierarchy… No offense but I have found a lot of beliefs to be untrue, one being the Catholic Church told me there is no Salvation outside of the Catholic Church, that is a lie and I know it… because that’s what my religion tells me, and my religion tells me that salvation is by faith alone… How can the true church, the church of truth teach something like this? It can’t… it contradicts the Bible and contradicting the Bible is not something the Church of God would do, so how can it be THE Church? I don’t think it’s around anymore… it can’t be.

I know what the timeline says… that the Catholic Church came about at almost the exact time of Christ’s death… but just as Protestants came out of the Catholic Church… what would have stopped the Catholic Church from coming out of the True Church? You don’t know for certain and that’s why I’m not picking and choosing, suppose the Catholic Church is wrong, and isn’t the Church of God… would you rather choose that and follow it to hell or choose the Bible where you can get atleast a small grasp of truth?

I don’t believe you can HONESTLY prove that the Catholic Church was the ACTUAL Church… There’s a good chance but still, the possibilities are ever-expanding.

Sorry if this is getting too far off topic

Also, you can trust the One Church that fulfills Christ’s promise to be with til the end of the age.

Luckily, the same Church fits both of our criteria. 🙂

For if She is right, then that means that your church is…
No offense but I have found a lot of beliefs to be untrue, one being the Catholic Church told me there is no Salvation outside of the Catholic Church, that is a lie and I know it…
Christ said there is no Salvation but through Him. The Catholic Church is only continuing what Christ taught.

What does He tell us in the inerrant Bible? “He who listens to you, listens to me. He who rejects you, reject me and the Father that sent me” (paraphrasing).
…because that’s what my religion tells me, and my religion tells me that salvation is by faith alone…
So why do you follow a church that obviously teaches something that is false. Didn’t Christ tell us that the Holy Spirit would be with us to insure that we teach only the truth?

It has to be, or Christ did not fulfill His promise.
I know what the timeline says… that the Catholic Church came about at almost the exact time of Christ’s death…
more precisely, the Pentecost, when Peter had his coming out party.

Because the Bible tells us to take our disputes to the Church. If it said, “Take it to the Church, until those foolish mortals can settle on the New Testament…”, now that would be a different story.
I don’t believe you can HONESTLY prove that the Catholic Church was the ACTUAL Church… There’s a good chance but still, the possibilities are ever-expanding.

Yeah, this should cover a different thread (my regrets to the OP), but if you studied the teachings of the Early Church, you’ll find that only the Catholic Church can claim to have One Teaching since Apostolic times.

For instance, the Eucharist has been taught by every generation since St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Scholars can find Church Fathers in EVERY generation since then teaching of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. That’s simply amazing.

The teachings and practices of Bapstism (i.e. removal of sins, receiving the Holy Spirit, infant baptisms) have remained incredibly consistent since the first century.

Confession? 1st Century. The disciplines of this Sacrament have changed, but not the general teaching.

I’m going to trust in God’s promises, while verifying these consistent teachings and know with absolute certainty that the Catholic Church is the One True Apostolic Church that Christ left us.

P.S. BTW, you may want to study the Catholic Church’s teachings that there is no salvation outside of the Church before you condemn it. This teaching is amazingly misunderstood among the Christian community (by Catholics and non-Catholics alike).

I think something just came to me! Jesus said where three are gathered in my name I will be there! These gatherings were supposed to be the church, not the big buildings where people attend- they didn’t have buildings to meet in, except their houses- those people gathering in Christ’s name would have been believers in him, and them containing the Holy Spirit (Faith in Christ brings the Holy Spirit right?! =D) would be moved by him, I think THAT is the Church and that THAT is the object Christ will remain with til the end of time! Christ will be with all of his believers to the end of time, why didn’t I think of that before?

I thank God you are all here, I don’t think I would have ever come to that conclusion on my own… I think I’m going to take a break for a bit though 😉

God Bless
