I would say: keep the answer simple. If God exists, and if He was so involved with mankind that He sent his own Son to save us and turn us into a new people, a community of believers, together in His Church, it goes without saying that God wants this community to be a community, coming together, sharing faith, adoring Him as one people. In the bible there is no individualism - that is the American heresy -, there is personalism: the person matters to God, but the person can only flourish in relationship, with God and others. Being a christian on your own is an oxymoron.
