Except we are a long way from running out of oil and gas. Furthermore, this end of oil has been a recurring them going back to the late 19th century, before the automobile arrived on the scene. It was constantly talked about during the 1920s until the discovery of the great East Texas Oil field brought a glut of oil onto the market. Of course there must be a limit. No material is unlimited, but we are no where near the end of “running out.” of fossil fuel. The development of plastics has of course led to a revolution in materials, so that without petroleum, we would be virtually naked until we learned to use cotton and wool–especially the latter-- again. INHO, wool is underutilized. It has many advantages over synthetic materials, especially as fabric science has learned better ways to use it. It has the advantage over cotton of not requiring fertilizer.
No major petroleum discoveries have been made in the last thirty years. While it is true that we are not running out of oil, we are approaching the end of oil that is affordable to most people. As human population grows – and particularly in places where the demand from private automobile use grows – the cost of petroleum will skyrocket. Will gasoline be cease to be affordable at $10 per gallon, or $20, or $50?

Thank you for the correction.

It is neither well known or readily accepted that priests have caused a lot of harm to the Catholic faith and Church and especially here since there was no big bang if only for the fact that matter and anti matter would have annihilated each other. The big bang is a big fudge as is CDM as is something from nothing etc - try www.CSM.org pamphlet No.317 -twinc

And you might also like this article: Warning: Gravity is “Only a Theory”

For some people they are: one biologist posts a challenge to some aspect of evolution, and the YECs say, “See, scientists don’t agree, so the biblical account must literally be true.”
The real challenge to at least one aspect of evolutionary theory is the common sense understanding of human nature.

I pay just over 7 dollars a gallon. I don’t think it will reduce again.

Your post is profoundly misleading.

There is nothing that can be inferred in the way of a counter-argument to Big Bang Theory regarding matter-antimatter. Though it is theoretically true that a mixture of matter and anti-matter would result in their annihilation, the mixture would give rise to high-energy photons (gamma rays) or other particle–antiparticle pairs. Also, the universe is asymmetrical, mostly consisting of matter, while certain areas consist of anti-matter. This asymmetry presents a real problem with your assertion that they “would have annihilated each other.”

Also, Cold Dark Matter (cdm) theory attempts to account for the observed rotation of spiral galaxies and interactions between galaxies by invoking the presence of considerable amounts of non-luminous, slowly-moving particles. Big Bang Theory was formulated before and independently of CDM theory. Furthermore, CDM in sound physical theory is not something from nothing.

Do you get your pseudo-facts regarding astronomy and physics from anti-science “creationist” websites? Whatever the case may be, your ideas are stillborn.

Why would you point us to a site that we have to pay for the information? I can’t imagine that the pamphlet is even worth the pittance they are asking for.

Granny, what is that challenge? What is “the common sense understanding of human nature” of which you speak?

Thanks, Itinerant1 – great article! I wonder whether plate tectonics should be taught in geology class, as it too is only a theory.
Children should be taught the controversy about plate tectonics, instructed in alternative views, and then decide for themselves. :rotfl:

OK, as long as you agree that gravity should only be taught alongside both “Intelligent Falling” theory and the Aristotelian theory of Heavy Things Seeking their Natural Place," or HTSNP. I don’t want this atheistic gravity theory forced on my Catholic children.

We all know that things fall not because of gravity but because God pushes them down. It says so somewhere in the Bible.

Here is an excerpt from an old Watch Tower Society publication. The older publications especially are notorious for their mixture of hubris and utter nonsense: :whacky:

“THE subject of gravitation is a very interesting one, especially as it relates to attraction between heavenly bodies. “Attraction of Gravitation Not Universal” (Golden Age, No. 314) seems to be well and truthfully thought out. Therefore, Newton’s “universal law of gravitation”, that “every particle of matter in the universe attracts every other particle with a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely as the squares of their distance apart”, is not true. The variableness of the planets in their orbits proves that the “constant attractive force”, necessitated by the universal gravitation theory, is based upon a false premise.”
