I keep having thoughts that I want to go to hell, thoughts of hell in general and thoughts of trying to accept that I’m going to hell. I’m fearing hell worse now and I don’t want to go there. What should I do??

I pray an act of contrition many times throughout the day but I fear it is not enough

Those thoughts are not from above, but rather below.

Judge those thoughts and say “I reject this thought” and push it away in your mind. When it comes back (it will) do the same. Keep close to the sacraments, especially reconciliation.

I would also recommend starting to say the rosary regularly. If the whole prayer is to much, do a decade a day.

For me it works when I tell an opposite to the thought so in your case it should be like: “im not going to hell” or “I want to go to heaven”

You need to keep your mind off the idea that you are going to hell, whenever you start thinking of ’ hell ’ try saying the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel…Stop being afraid, Jesus knows where your heart is…St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do thou O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits, who prowl about world seeking the ruin of souls…It is a very powerful prayer,May our Lord keep you close and free of fear.🦋🦋.

I would give this post a hundred likes if I could. My priest once told me if I ran into evil influences to say out loud “Jesus Christ is my savior” to put an end to it. Time to “up your game” with suggestions listed in this thread. You will be fine.

For some people - that’s how their conversion starts -
The fear of going to Hell -
I’ve heard older people at church - still worried - about Hell.
I think it’s a very healthy thing.
Jesus said cut off your foot, pluck out your eye,
cut off your hand, for its better to go to Heaven maimed -
Then to end up in flames !

There is a difference between a healthy fear of hell (this is what imperfect contrition consists of), and obsession. Obsession is unhealthy. Unfortunately, the latter characterizes too many people on these forums. If they don’t obsess about hell, it’s scrupulosity or some pet issue that has no bearing on one’s salvation.

I think you should do some thinking on if somebody did a similier situation in your past that was tramatic and take care of that memory.

All true. I read somewhere, if all someone had was “a fear of hell” that was at least a good beginning. Of course even the Saints worried about hell, at least some of them did.

Do what it takes to get into heaven. It’s possible you fear hell just because getting to heaven seems like hard work and you might find it difficult. Just stop the other thoughts by working on the goal: getting to heaven.

You don’t need professional help. Who are these professionals? Most of the time, they’re not Catholic. They have no concept of the urgency of getting to heaven.

You can’t drive a car if you’re thinking “What if I have an accident?” the whole time you’re out there. Just focus on staying in between the lines. Same with being a Christian.

A priest certainly qualifies as qualified professional help. That’s who I’d advise the OP seek out.

Try to identify the source of this fear. Once identified, face it bravely and with God’s help.

Make a detailed confession(Examination of conscience ,sins against 10 Commandments especially) and get prayed over by a pious Catholic Priest, participate in an Eucharistic Adoration/ inner healing service.Pray the Rosary daily Jude 20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; 21 keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to[n] eternal life. 22 And have mercy on some who are wavering; God Bless

My dad always taught me no-one will go to hell if they wear a scapular and say the rosary as the blessed mother will not allow it.

The prayer “Lord, I want to be with You” helps me. What also helps is seeing all Christ did - the Crucifixion & passion - to bring us to Him. God wants us to be with Him. He told us he came to save sinners.

I’m sorry you are having these terrible thoughts. You are in my prayers. Please pray for me.
