Back to the Amish.

I just had to know. I called one of my relatives in Indiana, this is what he said.

The Amish can work to provide for their families using things that they would not normally be allowed to use. Some of the most traditional sects don’t allow it, but most do. Like said above, they are just not supposed to use electricity and power tools at home.

Then their are a few sects that allow pretty much anything to be used at home and say it is the spiritual aspect of the work that matters. But I think they are a huge minority.

Anyway, off the topic a little, but thought I’d share what I’d heard.

I always think of IKEA, lol.

Their good stuff is really good, and their bad stuff is really bad though, lol. It’s just a matter of finding the good stuff. This table is great…very sturdy and well made and, I think, reasonably priced for the size and quality.

I know this is SO off topic, but does anyone read “The Onion”? About a year ago they had a hillarious story on Ikea stuff taking over your home. We live just a few miles from an Ikea so, needless to say, we have quite a bit of it. 🙂

"The Onion"? I’ve never heard of it:confused:, sorry.

I guess I could consider us lucky then that our IKEA is all the way across the city…we get there maybe once or twice a year, lol. But then, because it is such a trip, it turns into an exhausting all-day event. One time we spent over 7 hours there:eek: much to hubby’s dismay…

Interesting information about the Amish work style. Thanks, Pira! And FW, wow, what a husband! You are one blessed lady to even be married to a man who’ll go into an IKEA! And just for the record, my own DH was in Germany and visited the IKEA store in Munich (?). He brought home a catalog. I was thrilled. However, I didn’t see any tables on the website that would work for me. Perhaps I need to go to our nearby IKEA, which is about an hour away and would require the better part of the day. It probably won’t happen… I found some cheap chairs on JCPenney.com, ladderbacks with rush seats, that I purchased yesterday. I’m thinking of topping my current kitchen table (which is actually a large desk) with a piece of Corian to match my countertops, which also have beveled edges and clipped corners. Though it would be pricey, it would be cheaper than buying a new table. The table I have now is very sturdy.

Thanks again for all of your replies.
