DE PAOLIS: The punishment envisaged, as set down in Canon 1367, is excommunication reserved to the Apostolic See: Whoever profanes the consecrated Eucharistic species, or removes or keeps them for a sacrilegious purpose, incurs excommunication means the sentence already given, meaning it is incurred by the very fact of having committed the offence, without the need for any trial (Canon 1314). Reserved to the Apostolic See means that the sentence can only be lifted by the Holy See (Canon 1354-1355).

Casilda! That is what I was so worried about! I do think it is a demented person though, the church is very welcoming to everybody and almost everybody recieves in the hand. I do think it wouldn’t happen if they received on the tounge.

We live about an hour away from this church so I asked a friend of mine to go for me, he said all he found was gum. (I should have known better than to send a man to find anything.🤷) I will return soon though and hopefully he’s right, however my daughter is pretty adament about what she saw so I have no doubt it is the same deal all over again.

Someone said dissolve Him in a paper cup… Is that the right way? I wish I could get a priest who would bless the spot, (like they used to).

If anyone has any suggestions on how to prevent this in the future ,please tell me.

I am going to my church in town tomorrw and all my kids and I will be scraping gum off the pews and doing a search. We’ll pray to St. Mary Magdalin…

Last year when trolling under the pews one of the girls found THE HOLY EUCHARIST stuck to the bottom of the pew! We notified the priest and surched for more, **finding several. **

First, you say that after finding one host, you “surched” for more “finding several.” Then you say that your daughter is “pretty adamant about what she saw.” So, did you actually see the supposed hosts or was it just your daughter? Was it one host or “several?” And if this happened “last year,” why did you wait so long to ask what to do? And all your friend found on his search was gum?

Upon reading your account a thought and concern ran through my head, to check the pews at my own parish but…everyone receives communion on the tongue in my parish. Therefore I expect not to find HIM stuck under a pew. Isn’t there to be an observance of the communicant consuming the host prior to walking away?
If someone is intent on desecration of the Eucharist, they could receive on the tongue and not swallow the Host. Or are you saying desecration never happened until Communion in the Hand was allowed by the Holy See?

It would seem like one is taking a big risk in handling it with the hands, or at least doing so without a paten.

I mean most of us eat food with or off a plate. I can’t believe we’re handling the sacred species in such a careless and perfunctory manner.

UPDATE*
We finally made it back today, well, we went back a couple weeks earlier but the church was locked up, so we happened across the guy in charge of cleaning the church, he said he would deal with it. (the same guy who said he would deal with it when this happened last year) .

So we checked up on him after mass today and sure enough, there was the Holy Eucharist. It was in part so I guess the useless janitor made a pathetic attempt at doing his job.

So I told the kids to fan out and we made a good search of it, and there was another one. I did take a picture.

Sorry, had to change a diaper…

So we went out back to get the priest, and I was not too hopeful because of the response we got to the same problem last year. However this was different priest, very old, very sweet, forgets half the words to mass, can’t hear you in the confessional (GREAT!) , loves the babies, So I was afraid to hear what he would say, He was awesome! He says “How terrible!” “will you show me?” I was so relieved! He needed help removing the Eucharist because he had a hard time getting down, so I helped him, he was so good, consumed it right there. I felt better right away, but still wish I had gotten there sooner.

Good questions.
It happened on 4 different occasions at this church. This last time my daughter had eyes on it first, then told me later. We live a ways away from the church so I foolishly delegated it to someone else.

You probably read back already and figured that out on your own.😉

The whole idea is interesting…but who would do such a thing ?
And hadnt be seen doing it ?

I really do think this problem would be helped by not allowing communion in the hand any more. I know, there can still be desecration, but it would be lessened because the host would be better broken down by the time they returned to their pew. It would be harder to remove from the mouth.Frequently when people receive on the hand they are half way back to their pews before He gets to the mouth. I know that isn’t proper reception, but that is the way it usually happens.

Phil, I was afraid it was a broader problem, but I’m pretty sure it is just a mentally challenged person who doesn’t know if they are a foot or horseback.

We will try to get a band together to watch for the perp. If they turn out to be some punk kid we will try to straighten him out. If it is a MR person we will tell Father and hopefully they will withhold communion from him, or only give it from the cup. That would work right?

I don’t want to tell the Bishop anymore, he won’t do anything anyway, and it would be a poor reflection on the priests in the parish.

Do you think I should?

I guess it could be a child forced to go to mass ?
That has no interest and does it as a protest

Yeah maybe a kid. it would be nice if Father would talk about it at mass so people know to look out for it.

I forgot to mention, we didn’t find any problem at our home parish, just lots of gum!

Um is Everywhere…i find it under desks…i finf its best to leave it and scrap it off during the Christmas break…lol

lol

The gum we always have with us!

A no gum chewing policy would probably be helpful too here. It would give the priest an opportunity to promote the dignity of the Holy Eucharist.

If the intent is to desicrate I think that someone might feel it was more disrespectful to receive and then spit out. I don’t like to think about this.

I don’t like to think about it, either, but I’m sure it happened. Personally, I like to receive communion in my hand, and my uncles, who are priests, say they don’t like to place it on the tongue as well as in the hand, though they will, of course. It is their job and honor to do so.
