Bigotry in 2014

So, I’m a bigot.

I believe that there are two distinct genders in the human species. These two genders are identified as male and female. There is clear evidence of these two genders in the genetic signature of human beings. That is, the male provides either an X or a Y chromosome in the process of fertilization. The female is typed by two X chromosomes and it is the male that provides the sex determining chromosome. These are considered truths of materialism. However, post-modernism ignores these truths and determines that I am a bigot for believing that there are two, distinct, co-equal and complementary sexes. The evidence of the material world only applies to some things. Since I do not understand why the facts and truth of our human nature as two genders is irrelevant that makes me a bigot.

So, I’m a bigot.

I also believe that Jesus was born of Mary. It seems that God who could make sons of Abraham from stones (Matt 3:9) has raised up His Son from a virgin. But, virginity and chastity and dedication to Our God are old fashioned, quaint ideas of aged, superstitious, washerwomen. So I must be chastised since it is 2014, don’t you know? Belief in chastity and virtues makes me out-dated.

So, I’m an out-dated bigot.

I believe that Jesus was born as Son of Man and Son of God, that God, Immanuel, put on humanity as The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. This makes me wrong. It is wrong to believe that Jesus is God since we are to now understand that every person is God. I do not understand how every person can be God. I believe that there is only one, true God, and that God is absolutely co-equal in the nature of the Godhead, The Holy Trinity. Such mysteries of an ephemeral God-person are just figments of overactive imaginings since the material world is simple to understand. Only incoherent thinkers could expect such mysteries of the holiness of a God of some sort of transcendent reality might exist.

So, I’m an incoherent, out-dated bigot.

I believe that each human person is created, body and soul, by God. That this gives each person the right to life from conception to natural death. I believe that it is horribly unfair, corrupt and unjust to take the life of an innocent, human person since each person is created as an image of God. I believe each individual was created to reflect the light of God, of Jesus, Immanuel. The light of Christ is revealed by the power of The Holy Spirit who dwells within every person and that this union is more fully present within the newly created life of a baptised person. The government has determined that this core of beliefs is the greatest threat to the state.

So, I’m a high risk, incoherent, out-dated bigot.

In this union of the baptised with Christ the bridegroom the sacred nature of marriage is amplified. I believe that the creation of human life is a sacred matter. Through this understanding of the body of Christ, the church, I believe that teaching chastity and virtue are a moral obligation of natural parents. This right, bond and obligation of parents is integral to the image of God that was created in each individual, male and female. I believe that God created two distinct genders to teach us about the nature of the divinity of the Godhead and to reflect the love that is the union of the three person of the Godhead. I believe that the matrimonial union of persons is sacred and that an openess to life is an element of a sacred trust that is bound to transmission of life and the rearing of children. Such an understand of the sanctity of life and the sacredness of true marriage as God originally intended implies that I must be homophobic.

So, I’m a homophobic, high risk, incoherent, out-dated bigot.

This may be the case. However, I know that God loves me and sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to suffer and die for my sins. Perhaps my status as a homophobic, high risk, incoherent, out-dated bigot is not as bad as it may seem. After all, it’s 2014, you know.

And that brings me to the sloppy way the most strident gay-marriage proponents have been throwing around the term “bigotry.” A bigot is someone closed-minded in some respects — someone who evaluates or judges certain groups of people on the basis of prejudice, or pre-judgment, about them, who does not greet all people and ways of life with complete and unbiased openness. Someone, in other words, who does not grant automatic recognition and unconditional affirmation to everyone.

I submit that, measured by this standard, virtually everyone involved in the gay marriage battle is a bigot. Someone who considers homosexuality an abomination that should be a criminal offense is certainly expressing bigotry. But so is a traditionalist religious believer who professes to hold no animus toward homosexuals and yet opposes gay marriage because they conceivesof marriage as “a religious sacrament with a procreative purpose.”

And so, also, is a gay marriage supporter who can see no relevant moral distinction between these two positions — and is willing and eager to hurl insults as a means of bullying them both into submission.

Bigotry is endemic to social life, and it will be until there cease to be serious differences among conflicting goods and ways of living.
I don’t know of a single equality advocate who “want and expect all Americans to recognize and affirm that equal dignity.” What they want is freedom FROM religion (truly felt or just a convenient mask for bigotry). Millions of Americans can say and believe whatever they wish, and they can demand fealty to those believes among their co-religionists. But no American – not a single one of any belief – has the right to stand in the way of equality for ALL Americans.

I have clear memories from the 1950s and 1960s of many Americans citing chapter and verse of the Christian bible to “prove” racial equality was absolutely inconsistent with their god and their faith and the natural order. Some of those people actually believed what they were saying, but most, I suspect, were hiding their racism behind convenient religion.
 
I understand a bigot to be someone who through fervent obsession with his own beliefs is not open to accept that others have an equal right to uphold widely divergent views to the extent that there is only one path to spiritual salvation - the one which he chooses to follow - all others being wrong.

This can unfortunately be the impression given by some Catholics.

That is exactly correct and I agree completely.
 
The church is consistently under attack by people who don’t understand it. The best we can do is pray for them to open their eyes.

Yes we should pray for guidance, but also:-

Perhaps if we demonstrated greater tolerance and openness?
Perhaps if we offered uncritical friendship?
If it was possible to show the JOY we feel in our Faith, they might wish to know more.

Jesus said “Love one another as I have loved you…”

There is a tendency to focus upon differences, whereas in God’s eyes we are all equal.

There is only one path to spiritual salvation, and all others are indeed wrong.

Now, people have the right to follow any path they wish, and they have the right to believe there are many paths or one path. I, also, have the right to believe that there is only one path.

If all the open minded liberals were true to their (assumed) beliefs, this would indeed be the case. Sadly, the only acceptable attitude is that everything must be equally true and good, and to think differently is to be a bigot.

There is a huge difference between believing that other religions are equally true, and not hating those who believe differently.

This sounds good, and I would love to say that it will work.

But I don’t think it will because so many of the “choices” that people take nowadays are truly sin and as Christians, we can’t tolerate sin or be open to it.

E.g., “gay marriage” and “the practice of homosexual sex” are sins, and this makes it very difficult for us to “demonstrate greater tolerance and openness.”

Let’s use a different sin as an illustration. Let’s say that our neighbor believes it’s OK to steal in order to acquire goods. Should we “demonstrate greater tolerance and openness” to him?

Yes, we can tolerate those who practice that sin and treat them with respect and love. Christians have always led the way in demonstrating love to the poor, the outcast, the diseased, the prisoner, and the sinner. Jesus demonstrated love to those who tortured and executed them when He cried out, Father forgive them. We need to follow His example.

But we cannot tolerate and be open to the actual sin. That is not Christian love at all.

Whist sincerely respecting your opinion, I cannot see any similarity between a crime such as theft and the Catholic teaching about those who choose to practise homosexuality in their private lives - which I see as their personal choice.

Do you not believe that homosexual sex is a sin? This is what the Church teaches. Do you not accept that teaching?
 
I accept that he Church regards many things as sinful which I feel are personal to those concerned and should remain so.

The date on the calendar means nothing. Homophobic means you - allegedly - have an irrational fear of homosexuals. I don’t and never have. Name-calling is never a good thing. Unless you’ve seen nuns and priests carrying AK-47s, I think the government is simply reacting to outside secular pressure. I notice no incoherence regarding your stance on abortion. The Church has been against it before 1973 and will continue to be against it.

The “calendar fantasy” is the creation of a fictionalized perception - “We’re living in the 21st Century!” Yeah. So what? 1950s: pay your bills, keep your car running and go to work. 2014: pay your bills, keep your car running and go to work.

The manipulation of words, the relabeling of things, does not make them new. Pro-Abortion then Pro-Choice then Women’s Health.

Chastity is a 100% guarantee that you will not get an STD. Sounds like a good idea. After all, who decides when anyone has consensual sex? The Church? The State? No. That person alone.

I don’t consider someone like this a “bigot.”

In fact I seriously don’t think someone like this would be called a bigot.

I’ve not seen gays or anyone else call Catholics or Christians bigots just for their religious beliefs.

There is, however, such a thing as an anti-gay bigot; the person who would go around saying really insulting and inaccurate things about them.

Well, that’s all they really have to argue on. Such is usually the case when it comes to government-mandated entitlements.

Such a point of view would be well-served when it comes to discrimination. People discriminate all of the time, and it is not always a bad thing.

Except of course Islam, and they don’t seem too keen on upsetting the Jews or Black Churches either.

Talk to the Protestants. The Catholic Church doesn’t cling to sola Scripture nor does it need to bend and twist the Bible as liberals do with the Constitution.

Also, comparing racism to homosexual behavior is an apples and oranges argument and offensive to certain minorities.
