The same way we know a baby* in utero *is innocent. Are you saying you otherwise have proof of sins/wrongdoings committed by these oxen?

Jala
There is a difference between a human baby in utero and an ox. That is the fact that the human is not an ox and vice versa.

You are correct. However, Essenes believe that oxen have the same Breath of Life within them as you do, and killing a living creature for your own comfort and convenience is forbidden.

But biological differences aside, why do you think that oxen are not “innocent creatures” just by virtue of not being human? Are only humans able to be innocent?

I think that your take on the innocence of animals is not too far away from the Catholic perspective. They are “innocent” as in they cannot do evil because they do not have reason and knowledge of the difference between right or wrong, doing evil is a prerogative of rational beings. However, their form of “innocence” is not a right for protection from slaughter either from humans or animals.

Of course I object to killing an innocent creature (or in this case, two of them).

Jala
An animal can never be innocent in the same way that it can never be guilty… it’s an animal and works from instinct not reason.

Animals don’t need to be guilty in order for us to eat them:p They just need to be tasty!

And with enough garlic, salt and pepper, and a few other herbs and spices (and maybe a good marinade if the meat is tough) you can make anything tasty.

I support PETA - people eating tasty animals:thumbsup:
