Tgeist does not mean mythical imaginary God. It means God.

I’m sorry but you saying there is no God does not make it so. This is the exact mentality I speak of in that you consider yourself God.

I could say I am

A physics Meaning I don’t believe physics and I think physics is imaginary.

It would be quite silly for me to be upset that people referred to my belief as an aphysicist because I said physics doesn’t exist.

Physics does exist and if I said otherwise it would be laughable.

So unless you want to provide scientific proof that God does not exist, then the term atheist makes perfect sense.
Physics does exist. My argument is having words for people who don’t believe in things that don’t exist e.g. a-harrypotterist or a-unicornist -

We can’t prove scientifically that Harry Potter or Unicorns don’t exist. That does not mean until we prove it, that they exist. Fictional characters are not real, just because we can’t prove they don’ exist. Gods are works of fiction. We can’t prove they are not real, but that does not alter the fact they are fictions. Every God that man has created has ended up replaced by another. I see no reason for that to change.

I am not saying that there is no God in the hope that that somehow makes it fact. I am saying its a bit absurd to have a word for people who don’t believe that fictional characters are real.

But you are making an assumption that it is a fictional character.

Sorry but the vast majority of human beings and the world through the ages disagrees with you. You are a very small minority of human beings who don’t believe in God. Especially in the grand scheme of the world. It is a modern phenomena

But, to play your game…if 99% of humans throughout history, believed in Unicorns and self described themselves as unicornists…It would make perfect sense to describe the few that are not unicornists…as aunicornists.

The fact of the matter is…God exists…there is tons of evidence to point at something larger than ourselves existing…and the vast majority of humans agree with this belief.

So you will always be called an atheist, and someday when the novelty of your group wears off, it will be remember as that group of atheists who were so silly they didn’t believe in God.

Hi Josh welcome to the discussion.
Thank you 🙂
I guess for me I believe that Islam is unfair & unjust to women/apostates/gays and so on.
I haven’t studied a great deal into Islam as yet, so I don’t know, in any case, I believe it would be better to deal with these issues as they come up rather than some people trying to do some sort of ‘pre-emptive strike’
The classic example is in Sharia for woman to prove she’s been raped there needs to be four MALE witnesses. There are people who want to see this in Britain and we need to be able to attack these suggestions without being called racist.

Thanks
John
I agree. I however believe that Bill Maher and Sam Harris have a very different agenda than that. 😉

God Bless

Thank you for reading
Josh

I understand that theists need a word to describe ‘others’ and so ‘atheist’ - works. It helps define this ‘group’ for ‘believers’ and make the group distinct from them. But that ‘group’ is not homogeneous. It is not a ‘group’ and so it is a clunky word to use.

‘Atheism’ as you call it - is not a group or a novelty - that statement does not make sense.

If it helps, to use your terminology - we are all atheists - we all have at least one God we don’t believe in.
