OK, for the ignorant here. Can you explain in simple terms what bind and loose means as referred to in Matthew 18:18-19? What does the term bind mean and what does the term loose mean?
Thankyou

Hello. If I may, let me take a crack at it.
When Christ gave the authority to the apostles to bind and loose, this commission caused two major operations in the church’s life, one is the sacrament of Reconcilliation which directly loosens the repentant sinner from his or her sins. The second is the articulation of morals so that the Christian can properly know what is sinful and what is noble.
With this in mind, the church through time will keep on articulating what is beutiful, noble and true to generations and cultures as time moves on. One of the best and brightest example of this is Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Humana Vitae.
Hope this helps a bit.
