What is the Church’s stance on BioLogos? The individual who coined the term, Dr. Francis S. Collins, was the head of the Human Genome Project, stated in his book The Language of God that this was the position of Pope John Paul II, CS Lewis, and (if they lived today) Sts Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. Here is the site:

I find their argument really convincing, but I want to know if the Church supports it.
Thank you.

May I ask which argument you found convincing?

On a generic website such as this, the Catholic Church would only support proper Catholic doctrine. Unfortunately, this website opposes the Catholic doctrine regarding the origin of the human species and sidesteps the meaning of “in the Image of God” which is part of Divine Revelation found in the Catholic Deposit of Faith. See “Questions” and put Adam in search box.

Blessings,
granny

Our first parent Adam was the apple of God’s eye.
(example of reality and figurative language)

Basic Catholic teaching regarding Adam and Eve is found in the
Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, ISBN: 1-57455-109-4
Paragraphs 355-421.

The good news of Jesus Christ follows in Paragraph 422, etc.

One can put the word paragraph and its number in the Catechism’s search bar in link www.scborromeo.org/ccc.htm
Entering topics, like Adam, is also very useful.

When you enter a paragraph number, like “paragraph 355”, and then click on the opening line, CCC Search Result - Paragraph # 355 you will see the following under the paragraph:

ZD,

Like many things, I don’t think the Church has an official stance on it. I do, however, agree with Francis Collins that the great Church leaders he mentions in his book would be (were, in the case of JPII) BioLogos advocates were they alive today, and I think the argument could be made that Benedict XVI falls into that camp. I myself believe the BioLogos position, as it, in my humble opinion, best affirms the notion that spiritual truth and scientific truth can never contradict one another. It is the most “Catholic” position with regards to creation and evolution that is out there, as it incorporates faith and reason in the Catholic tradition.

May I respectfully point out that the Biologos position opposes the Catholic position regarding the origin of the human species. So what is “Catholic” about denying Catholic teaching?

I do not want to go into detail here, out of respect of the Mod’s wishes. I simply wished to know what the Church’s stance on this viewpoint was. Though I received two completely opposite answers, I now know from where to look. Thank you.
