Interesting! I have a co-worker who some months ago lost her husband to cancer after a long battle with it. Several days after his passing she said a colorful bird continually ran into their bedroom window….and some days was on the other side of the house trying to fly in. She felt bad for the bird trying so desperately to make its entrance, but was afraid to open the window to let it in. What would she do with it once it was in!!? She was inquisitive as you say as to why this seemed to occur in such an odd fashion after her husband’s passing.
Also, on a pilgrimage to Fatima years ago, a traveler shared that her mother loved to see her flower garden in the backyard from her kitchen window and would often gaze at the flowers from that window. When she passed away, her husband missed her very much, but one day shortly after her passing she said a white dove came crashing into the kitchen window leaving a distinct dusted imprint of the wings sprawled out as we often see in depictions of white doves representing the descent of the Holy Spirit in biblical or other religious scenes with wings fluttering. The daughter telling the story said her father felt it was a sign to let him know she was okay…and he was at peace after that!
When my father passed away, I reflectively shared at the breakfast table a few days after his passing with a sister and our mother how nice it would be if we could ask God for a subtle sign to know when a loved one was in His presence….made it to heaven. I SAID something odd like a butterfly landing on you or ask for something of that nature. Not even two days later, we three were out and about walking through a quaint ceramic/plant store….and lo and behold…a white butterfly comes and lands on our mother’s head as we were walking through the outside shop! Look whose head it lands on…our mother’s!
After that incident I pejoratively told my mother…if Gods allows it…send two ladybugs when you make it to heaven! She passed a year and a half ago and after having a distinct dream about her….I was speaking to her in my dream and she only gazed at me with a rather peaceful countenance…As I usually have done on those occasions when she was in a dream…I would make it a point to visit the cemetery and pray a rosary. Last month, when this dream occurred I did just that…went and made a visit and there in the grass were not two but four ladybugs near the gravestone! Someone mentioned…ladybugs in November is kind of rare…they usually show up in the springtime?
I don’t believe it is too far fetched at all to believe God will allow such signs in accordance with His will to do so. After all, Our Lord said we could move mountains if we had faith! Is our faith too weak to believe that He will answer our requests in a distinct concise way at times at our asking? Hopefully not, although more often than not we may get a different answer to our prayers or requests.
We can take them for what they are… whether signs or a happy event and let it rest at that. We don’t need to get superstitious about it…that would not be right. But, we know our God is merciful and loving and concerned for our well being…spiritual as well as physical and His will can manifest itself in varied ways. A little sign here and there can go a long way in the heart and mind of his created beings. We can just be thankful and enjoy the moment!
