Birth Control Question

My wife and I have used birth control for several years and have made the decision to discontinue that practice. However, our doctor recommends using condoms for a period of 3 months to allow the medication’s effects to clear the system in order to prevent any undue complications to a potential pregnancy. I am having some trouble reconciling the use of condoms for that period with the concern for complications. Any thoughts on this? I am really unsure of what to do.

Sounds like you should abstain for the 3 month period, if you are worried about complications.

There is another, Church approved way to avoid getting pregnant, to use during those three months.

Congrats on your and your wife’s decision to live the sexual teachings of the Church. It’s not always easy (as you are currently seeing), but it’s worth it!

Take some NFP classes together.

Using condoms would be against the faith, regardless of the circumstances. Simply waiting for the Pill’s hormones to clear her system is not a justification for other forms of artificial birth control.

Another way to look at it: is getting pregnant a pathology? Are kids something that are bad? I think you are starting to realize that God’s plan for human sexuality has fertility as an integral part, and God wishes us to keep that gift intact, not tear it apart for our own pleasure.

After 13 years of marriage and 4 great boys, I can see how great God is and how happy my wife and I are in our marriage since we’ve kept that act sacred.
