That is a Lie, and i should hope you are not trying to relate birth control to abortion.

The pill thickens the mucus around the cervical opening meaning sperm cannot reach the ovum.

Should a baby be concieved, it is HIGHLY important you go off the pill if you wish to keep it but is not an abortion method.
Sorry, Cadaverini, you are only half right. The pill does thicken mucus to slow down the sperm, but that’s not the only way it works. It also hardens the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation in the event that the sperm does reach the egg. In this way, it can act as an abortifacient as it prevents the implanatation of an already fertilized egg (AKA an irrepeatable human person).

Sorry, but there’s a big diff b/w fibroid tumors, cysts, endometriosis and acne/cramps.

God knows our heart. He will know if we are “cheating the system”. I would at least research and try alternatives before I would excuse myself on the pretense that I am medically in need of something, especially knowing that most doctors give no thought to the morals, and, in fact, are encouraged to hand those things out like candy.
Your comments are irresponsible at best. How dare you judge those who take any type of medication. Not all doctors dispense medication like candy. My particular doctor is a Christian and of high moral fiber. I am insulted that you would generalize especially when you cannot possible know the hearts and minds of all doctors individually or as a group.
Shame on you. Who are you to judge especially when you say “God knows our hearts”.?

But it is true, that God knows our hearts and will not be mocked. And this rare dispensation to taking birth control pills should not be abused, that’s just a fact. If you’re not abusing it, then there’s no reason to feel personally judged harshly by the post you’re replying to.

As to “who are you you to judge?”…I know that wasn’t directed at me. But we are all intelligent human beings with the God-given ability and mandate to make moral judgements about the world around us…all the time, every day. Your own motives and heart are not personally being judged here.

Thanks everyone for their kind (and some not so kind) words of advice. I know I’m going to get off of it, its just a matter of when and how. My body, yes, may have changed in 10 years like someone state, but it also may not have according to my doc. It may get worse and that’s what worries me. The pills regulate my periods, and allow me to live a normal life while having my period. Of course I still have cramps, which all women know aren’t great, but its all normal now. I’m not doubled over in pain, laying in bed, and not able to function. I am looking into the Catholic doctor, and other options. There is so many conflicting stories about this is it hard to know who and what to believe. My bf has talked to 2 different priests about this, both of which gave him conflicting stories, which is why this makes any desicion even more confusing! But thanks everyone for your support (if you are being supportive) and all your help! I truly appreciate it! :o

Remember, the bleeding you have now is not a menstrual cycle, it is not a period, it is bleeding caused by withdrawl from the hormones. The pills have not regulated anything, they have masked the symptoms.

Basically, your doctor is treating a broken arm with morphine.

but it also may not have according to my doc
Angie_Sue, here’s the issue. I recommend that you seek a second or even third opinion from a pro-life OB/GYN. I know that at www.popepaulvi.com they actually fix problems that many OBs will cover up with hormonal birth control.

I will pray for your recovery.

God Bless,

It hasn’t masked anything because I am now having regular cycles with regular periods as a person should. I’m just like any other person having a normal cycle, as opposed to someone doubled over in pain and not functionable like before.

It seems like a “normal cycle” because you see blood every 28 days. It is a biological fact that what you are experiencing is not a menstrual cycle.

My pills actually cause my menstral cycles to happen every 3 months, instead of every month. I started these as a study drug, for these exact symptoms and they have cured all the pain and suffering I have had. The pills are used for that reason, and that reason only. She knows my beliefs, as well as my religion, and I was firm in stating that when I started them.

So you have withdrawl bleeding evey three months. Ask your doctor if this is a real menstruation or if it is withdrawl bleeding.

Angie_Sue,

I will not presume to know your health issues, and I’m not an OB/GYN. However, I humbly submit that you may benefit from getting a second opionion from a pro-life OB.

i’m no medical expert, but thinning hair and difficulty in losing weight comes with age, regardless if you take pills or not. maybe you’re just blaming the wrong thing

weight thing has something to do with your metabolism, which i don’t think the BC pills have anything to do with

and the hair, again a product of age. anyone who reaches the age of 30 would have some thinning

**Well, I did just turn 30 so that may be part of the cause! I did notice a difference for the better after switching to a lower dose pill and taking iron supplements daily. Since stopping completely I’ve also noticed the hair being a bit better, but that could be wishful thinking. The weight…well, I blame being newly married on that one. 🙂 **

could be true. my wife was on the pill for the longest time for the same reason. stopped when we got married, took us 1.5 years of actively trying to concieve to actually do. it’ll come. it may or may not be the pill. some people who never took the pill still have some challenges conceiving

**Very true! I guess I’m just hoping and praying that I’m one of the lucky/blessed ones that doesn’t have difficulty. **

I’m glad that your doctor found something to help you with your pain and has resolved your suffering. That doctor is a keeper for sure! 🙂 It’s not good when pain prevents you from doing daily activities. I think you have enough information to make an informed decision with the counsel of your doctor. As for going off birth control to get pregnant, good luck!!! :hug1: You’ll know soon enough how well your body adapts when you actually get off the ABC and become pregnant. I hope you don’t have to go back on them, but hey, at least you know what will relieve your suffering if your system revolts again.

I don’t know if anyone else has suggested what I’m going to, there were too many replies to go back and read every single one, so I apologize if this is a repeat! 🙂

I was on birth control for a long time to treat heavy, irregular, painful periods. Once I became a Catholic convert, AND I found out that the pill can be an ABORTIFACENT (I never knew that before!! Keep this in mind! If you use the pill once you get married and are sexually active, you could have early abortions.), I decided I had to find another way to deal with my condition. I stopped taking the pill. I still have somewhat irregular, heavy periods, but I am able to manage them. HOWEVER, there is hope in sight, and here is my reccommedation to you: I was reccommended the Creighton Method of NFP by several ladies at my church, which uses a system called NaproTechnology to treat women’s health concerns. I have been charting my biomarkers for almost a year now, and I am getting ready to undergo hormone testing to see if I am having an imbalance. This method has great success in treating all kinds of problems WITHOUT resorting to the pill, etc. My practitioner is suspection I am deficient in progesterone and may need to take progesterone at certain times in my cycle. Not only could this improve my symptoms, but it could also prevent a miscarriage. So, you might want to google NaproTechnology and see if you can find a practitioner in your area.

I was recently married, and I have to tell you, I think NFP is helping us immensely. It sounds like a major bummer to have to abstain for a period every month, but honestly, if we didn’t have that scheduled “break”, it would make things a lot harder on both of us. We both need the time to recharge, and also to rekindle desire for eachother. I dont’ think I would have believed myself a few months ago, before we were married, but it’s turned out to be so true. Also, knowing that we aren’t contracepting, and are remaining open to life and God’s will, really strengthens our marriage.

Hope this was helpful! Good luck with everything! Oh, and enjoy DATING!! I wish we had stopped and smelled the roses just a little bit more before diving into the trials of “real life”, like paying a mortgage and trying to stay under budget every month… we both treasure the memories of our more carefree times together.
